they have little tiny vacuums now that you can easily fit in the bottom of your closet which are perfect for dorm rooms. As for christmas lights, try a dollar store sometimes you can find really neat things there. Also a dollar store look for calendars that you like the pictures in then cut them out and use them as decorations for your walls. I bought one that was full of fun quotes last year then put the squares together to make a patchwork poster. It came out really neat. Also if you are going to hang stuff look for the 3M command strips and hooks they are AMAZING. I don't think i would survive with out them.

A lot of colleges don't allow Christmas lights because they're a fire hazard.

ats -- I like doing stuff with calendars too, I've got a ton of old ones up in my room. They're all on different months and they're all from different years, and I change them occasionally to fit my mood... it's a lot of fun.

The other thing that's surprisingly fun to put on your walls is wrapping paper. I've got some dragon wrapping paper from something my grandma gave me when I was little; I've got some Japanese newspaper ads that a few of my friends used to wrap something when I was in middle school; I've got a happy-face bag with sharpie drawings and messages on it that one of my friends gave me for graduation. Stuff like that. It's cute and it definitely brings back memories...

lol I bet this is a stupid question, but can you paint your walls or add wallpaper to the walls in you dorm room? Cause the school I'm going to, a lot of the rooms have gray walls that look kinda dirty. Well not all of the rooms, but I bet those are the rooms freshmen get.

At most schools, absolutely not. You're renting the room, not buying it, so it's kinda like a hotel situation -- you can get comfy, but don't go thinking it's yours, you know? A lot of people cover their walls in sheets, wrapping paper (though that rips so easily if someone leans against it), pictures, and other things that can be removed to spruce it up a little. Don't put holes or marks on your walls and you should be fine.

nope :( no paint or wall paper. Also no thumb-tacks or nails or some tape

YAY for penguin motifs.

How do you hang up pictures etc. if you are not allowed nails?

Blue sticky tack is perfect to hang up posters. If you want to hang a frame on the wall, you might want to try the 3m hooks that someone mentioned before.

YAY for anything penguin! :D

soccerfanatic - Some schools allow you to do whatever you want to the room (including move furniture, paint walls, loft beds) as long as at the end of the year, the room looks exactly the way you found it. If you painted the walls, for example, you'll just have to spend a couple of hours painting it back on the last day when you pack up for the summer. You should check with the Housing Department at your school to see if they allow it.

gianievve- OK, I'll look into that. Thanks. Lol, though, that means if I paint it a nice blue, I'll have to paint it back to ugly gray again. You'd think they'd want me to keep it better-looking. Oh well. Hopefully my school does that.
