Deerfield Hotchkiss Acceptance

Hi I was accepted into Deerfield and Hotchkiss and waitlisted at the rest of the very top tier schools. I was wondering if anyone had opinions on or experience with the dance programs at these two schools? Which one has better dorms? I'm new to this so any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

I got accepted to Deerfield as well but wait listed at Hotchkiss. I don’t know much about the Dance program because I haven’t started attending yet. But I know a little bit about the dorms. At Deerfield the dorm I visited was a nice size. Most of the rooms appeared to be singles. So, if you like privacy that’s nice. At Hotchkiss many of the rooms (that I saw) seemed to be doubles unless you were a proctor. I’m not too big on sharing a room so I liked the singles at Deerfield.

Most of the rooms at Hotchkiss are also singles, although they do have some doubles and day-student doubles or day-student triples (which means an extra desk for the day student). You can request a single or a double and most times you get it.

Most rooms at Deerfield are singles for sure.

Hopefully you can re-visit both. I would say - having spent quite a bit of time at both schools - that of all the “top tier” schools, they are the most similar.

I know both schools have a mix of older and newer dorms, so sometimes it’s a matter of luck as to which you get and so which is “nicer” for your first year. After that you can request.

Thanks! I’m revisiting both on the first revisits. Is there anything that makes them different from other schools like something totally unique?

Can you tell which grade did you apply for ?

I applied to be a sophomore as I’m a freshman now

I don’t know anything about dance at THS, but it’s really good at DA. One of the dancers decided to forego her senior year at DA because she got accepted into the Bolshoi Ballet. There’s at least one other girl just as good, in my opinion. And then a group of really talented dancers. Dance is taken seriously. The performances by the serious dancers are impressive.
What makes DA unique? Watch the video ‘Ten Reasons I Love about Deerfield’, if you haven’t yet.

Bump. Any info/opinions???

I think it will be easier if you ask about specific things that are important to you. I could talk about Deerfield for days, so I’d need specific topics. The most specific, the better answers I can give.

Is there cliques at Deerfield? I’m coming in as a Sophmore so do you think it will
Be hard to make really good friends since everyone knows each other from last year? I like the idea of sit down meals but it seems like after having so many you would get tired of it. Do most people like having so many sit down meals?

Half of the class comes in as Sophomores. Likewise, in my group of close friends half came in as Freshmen and half as Sophomores. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you get to know everyone else.

I would not call them ‘cliques’ but there are certainly different groups of friends. There are 150 kids in each grade and while you will know all of them, you are obviously going to be closer to some. That said all of the groups of friends tend to be made up of a wide mix of people. Will there be a group of kids that would traditionally be ‘popular’ and have athlete and good looking girls in it, yes. However there will be kids who are close with them that don’t seem to be similar at all, and others who you would expect to be in that group that aren’t. Basically people are friends with others at Deerfield based off of what they enjoy and who they get along with. Money and looks mean very little.
