Deferred Already?

When did you get yours dddsss17?

October 27th but now that I think of it I didn’t have everything in until the 13th so it took me around two weeks to get the letter

just out of curiosity, may i ask what your stats are?

i don’t think they would defer you already; seems much too early, especially since you sent in your app on the 30th of october. i wouldn’t make any assumptions quite yet, so don’t worry!

My stats are low for Michigan, so honestly it doesn’t surprise me! I was just shocked that it may have been so early.

4.03 WGPA
30 ACT (took again, still waiting for scores)
760 on USH SAT II, 5 on AP US
4 APs, 3 honors classes - fairly rigorous for my high school, which is considered an OOS feeder for UMich
Extenuating circumstances (moved twice during high school)

You probably would be in if you were an in-state student. What is your unweighted gpa?

did you end calling them?

I am unsure of my weighted GPA, since I went to two different high schools my GPA is somewhat arbitrary as the both use different scales.

I live chatted Michigan today, and they gave me no indication of my status. But they told me to email my regional counselor for a definitive answer. No response yet, but I will post when I know. I did talk to the college counselor at my school who told me it is fairly common for them to ask of a term/semester grade if you had switched (in my case returned) to another school.

yea that makes sense since your the only1 we have heard of getting this its probably because your from two different schools not because your deferred

Everyone who got the “7th semester grades” last year got deferred. People who have submitted their applications early have started to get this request on the WA.

so if I submitted my app early and didn’t get this does that mean I’m in?

Just to clarify, my counselor did say that this meant deferral - she just added deferrals were common among students who move.

Does anyone know if it is possible for them to let you know before December 23rd with a deferral? I know this doesn’t make sense, but could they see my first term grades (came out yesterday) and make a decision off of those?

No, they won’t accept quarter grades. Only semester grades count. You will for sure wait until at least January to hear back.

dddsss17… i am not so sure of that. i had everything done by sept 29 and i have not received this notification on WA, but it is definitely not a bad thing!

I have a question! When I log into my Wolverine Access account, I DO NOT see “7th semester grades” does that mean I have been either accepted or rejected?

It doesn’t mean that you are accepted or rejected. It only means that you aren’t deferred yet. In other words, your application is still being reviewed.

How does UMichigan review apps? Is it the order they were received? I submitted my application on October 8th, but my application wasn’t complete until October 26th. My counselor took A LONG time to do secondary school report, because he had many others to do as well.

I already got the “You’re qualified for EA” email.

Is online Wolverine Access the only way you can find out about UMich’s admission decision? Or do they send you a paper letter if you get deferred, rejected, or accepted?
I don’t have the “7th semester grades notified” thing on my Wolverine…is that a good thing or does that just mean they haven’t looked at my application yet?

If you get accepted, you will receive an e-mail within a day from the admissions office, the decision will be posted on WA and you will receive a letter. I believe that if you are rejected, they will also send you an e-mail within a day informing you but you will not receive a paper letter. I think if you are deferred, they do not send you an e-mail but will send you a letter informing you and will post the 7th semester grades on WA.

Also for all of you who have not had the 7th semester grades notified posted on your WA, it does not mean they have not begun reviewing your application, it just means they haven’t decided to defer you. I believe the admissions office does begin reviewing applications in order of completion. I know it’s hard but you guys need to stop trying to read into every tiny thing, often times, there is nothing there. Try to relax because that’s all you can do. You will not receive your admissions letter until mid-December at the earliest, if precedence from last year holds up.

you receive an email with any decision; admit, deny, or defer
you receive a decision on WA with an admit or deny
you receive a letter in the mail with admit or deny but not defer because it is not a final decision
if you are deferred there will be a section called “7th semester grades” but just because that is not on there yet does not mean that you have not been deferred, it just means they have not completed reviewing your application. if you submitted your application early (like i did) (sept 27) and there is not a 7th semester grades section on there i would say that your chances are very good, but do not quote me on that.

This may be a tad off-topic but w/e. I understand the acceptance rate two years ago was ~50%; last year it was ~40%. This year it’s expected to be ~35%ish. Now would you say there are more qualified people applying and making it harder to get in, or are people that don’t have a great shot applying for S&G just to see what happens, thus lowering the acceptance rate but still not making it significantly more difficult to gain admission?
