Deferred Applicant and Common Application/Admission Portal

Hello! Deferred applicant here.

I am still REALLY hoping Brown takes another look at me and considers me for RD. It really is my dream school! I may not have cured cancer, but I am a well-rounded student that works very hard. I’m very involved in the school/community and I have a personality that would thrive in Brown’s unique academic environment.

I know many deferred applicants send letters to Brown updating them of any accomplishments and reiterating interest in the school, but is it at all possible to update our app? Do we ever see it again in a non-PDF form? Will we get log-in info where we get another chance to add additional info?

Muchas gracias!

Well, deferred means “Brown takes another look at me and considers me for RD”.

No, you can’t update your application.

Do: send an update letter when you get your 1st semester grades, and have your guidance counselor send those grades in. Update them on any recent accomplishments, and reiterate how you’re a great match for Brown.

Do not: send excessive numbers of letters, or send any new materials that aren’t asked for.

you can’t “update your application” as BrownParent says, but you can send them a letter updating them about you as bruno14 says

A letter directly to the admissions office email address or to your regional officer?

do we only send in another letter indicating our interest? or do we have to send in another letter of recommendation?

^May I submit additional or updated information if I am deferred?
You may certainly let us know if there is a significant accomplishment or a noteworthy change in your circumstances, but it is not necessary to amend your application as a matter of course. Remember that a deferral does not mean that an applicant has fallen short in terms of qualification for admission. Make sure that your counselor has the Mid-Year Report form so we can receive your fall term grades and any updates your school would like to provide.
From their web FAQs.

When you’re deferred, you get a second look in RD. They liked you enough to go for this. So yes, if you have fresh info that is relevant to them, send it in. It’s a chance to add this, not go back and change what you already submitted. Use the opportunity wisely. Best wishes.

My child (deferred) can still log into the site to check her application status. Her personal information is there, but the required material checklist is not. Is that normal? Thank you.
