Deferred from Duke in December, accepted to U of Chicago in March. Fine with me :)

The decisions will be out on the 29th. 6pm.

Good luck guys! I think it’s already an accomplishment that we’ve gotten this far! :)

SeaHawks- if you get into Duke would you choose it over UChicago?

Idk, it’s a tough call. I’m inclined to say no, but there’s something about the atmosphere at Duke that Chicago doesn’t have.

Ya I visited both and they look similar, but I liked the Duke atmosphere a lot better. Good luck man, hopefully you have that dilemma!

Yeah…I would say that UChicago is missing a social scene. Nothing against the school as it’s obviously a great academic institution, but it’s not known as the most social/athletic/school pride-type school. Certain people prefer the feel, though, so it’s obviously an individual choice. Although I think the stereotypes are a bit overplayed and probably most individuals would be happy at Duke or Chicago. It’s not like UChicago only has social misfits and Duke only has social butterflies. That’s clearly not the case.

There are a bunch of cool sites to see in Chicago, but you can’t even get into a bar/club until you’re 21 anyways (unlike Durham where they cater to a college crowd). Being a Chicago resident, I can also say the winters are sometimes torturous, although this winter has been awesome…one of the warmest winters in history. Last year it was snowing in May, so it can vary greatly. Weather in Durham during the school year is obviously a lot more mild. I do like Chicago as a city, but it would be sweet if UChicago and DePaul would switch locations…Congrats on the acceptance!

The wait is killing me! I’m a legacy applicant, and I’m hoping that some communication with the Alumni Association will help (I sent both Admissions and the Alumni Association updates around the time I sent mid-year reports). But then again, I’m not really expecting very much preferential treatment. I’m just trying to stay on the radar and to show my passion for Duke.

I have to say, I’ve given it all that I have, and I will most likely be disappointed when I receive my decision at 6pm on the 29th. At least the wait will be over, and the process will have finality.

I hate this. I’ve already gone through this rodeo once and I didn’t win. Now, I have being rejected by Cornell, Columbia, and Harvard, and a waitlist by UVA under my belt. I don’t think it can get much worse… safety school it is.
Hopefully they are released early like in December

Holy crap i was accepted!

Rejected. I’m just shocked they said this, “You may be asking what was lacking in your application, especially since you applied Early Decision; the honest answer is nothing.”
Seriously, then why the hell was a I rejected?!
Sorry for the bitterness. Congrats to acceptees, but that line really ****ed me off.

ED Deferral and Legacy, Rejected.

^ same boat here.

Daughter was rejected. Bummer.

Rejected. Bummed.

S rejected (ED, legacy). DH threw alumni card in trash and removed alumni sticker from car window. Need a break from Duke. Good luck everyone

Daughter rejected (was an ED waitlist…1st time college, 32 ACT, likely valedictorian, Governors Scholar, 5 years mellophone in marching band - an award winning band).

Oh well. Duke’s loss.

She is pumped about her instate school…besides, if she had gone out of state, she would have lost a healthy in-state scholarship based on grades and testing scores to the tune of around $4k per year. Which, seeing she has pretty much a full ride based on MERIT…should go well towards funding a study abroad term or two.

Good luck to both those that got in, and those that did not. You will do fine with schools other than Duke. It’s really not the end of the world, you know, not getting in to an Ivy-league. Life goes on.

Ciao!

ED Deferral, legacy then rejected. wow. this sucks so much.
