I was deferred early march... what do you guys think my chances are of getting in?? I applied to LSA undecided

bump.,...........

come on guys help me out. I think i'm going to lose my mind

It is impossible to say. Michigan does not publish deferred-accepted statistics, so I am not sure. I guess it depends on yield. This year, I hear Michigan deferred many students and as such, they will accept many of them. But I am not sure. You will know soon enough.

good to know that there is still a chance.. more input please

bump. .........

wow...i dunno how i got in if you got deferred, but i think your chances are pretty good. don't worry!

what exactly happens when you get deferred? Does one reviewer say Yes and the second says No?

Reviewers don't say yes/no. If you go to U-M's site, they explain about the ratings system. There are five ratings (High Admit, Admit, Admit with Reservation, Deny with Reservation, and Deny). Reviewers may not agree on your rating, so that's why they have a senior admissions official do the third review. That person is the arbiter. They come up with a final rating for you.

A final rating of "admit" or "high admit," however, doesn't guarantee admission.

That's because U-M always gets with more applicants rated "Admit" and "High Admit" and "Admit with Reservation" than they could accept. Some of those people aren't going to be admitted. When the U doesn't know where along that line apps like yours are going to fall, they can either hold those apps and send no letter, or send those people a defer letter. The net effect is the same. When they know more about the applicant pool, they will render a decision on your application and the others with a similar rating that have been held/deferred up to that point.

In short, it doesn't have to do with people disagreeing over your application, but rather with uncertainty about the applicant pool overall, and how things were leaning the weeks after your application was evaluated.

i c i c thanks alot
