deferred decisions

the deferred letter said "on or around march 18"... do you think there's a chance that the deferred decisions will come out a little earlier?

I doubt it. I’m in the same boat as you, and I was assuming that’d they’d be out the same day as the RD people.

i was also deferred from UNC early

is there any stat on how many people that were deferred will ultimately be accepted?

Yes, Check the Common Data Set. I don’t remember the number, but it was pretty small. Discouraging!

How were your applications, grades, test scores, etc.?

Midyear grades-

Honors Physics 91
Honors English 96
Honors French V 97
AP Biology 99

This semester I have:
AP English (97 currently)
AP Biology (95 currently)
AP Government (98 currently)
AP French (94 currently)

I currently have an A in all of these classes, so I’ll graduate with a 4.7 GPA. I took two extra classes last year, so I had 10. I’m instate, manager job position (same job since freshman year), various club involvement (VP of NHS now), and 11/212 in my class. With my GPA rise, I’ll be 6th or 7th when I graduate…I asked the guidance counselor.

Chapel Hill is truly my dream, so I’m trying to be optimistic :)

Impressive grades, good extracurriculars, what were your SAT/ACT scores? What high school do you go to? Just seeing your GPA and EC’s, you’ve got an excellent chance. I’m surprised you didn’t get in EA

1830, so not that high. I don’t feel comfortable putting that information on here. Haven’t you seen the news? haha just kidding

I was surprised too, but I’m still kinda doubtful (being accepted this time). That being said, I think my essays were rather good as well. I wrote one in particular about my sister with cerebral palsy and how much she has changed my life.

I’m just hoping for the wait list at this point, even though that’s more waiting. I wish they knew how much I’m dying to go there, but I respect their decisions either way

Haha, my bad, I asked that question cuz I was wondering how competitive your high school is, lol. Anyways, your SAT is actually pretty solid. IMO, you’re in. You’ve got a way better chance then me. I’m expecting denial. I don’t want the waitlist. My GPA is kinda low 4.2, my ACT is 35, my mid year grades, meh A’s and B’s. EC’s, I have volunteering at different places but nothing noteworthy. Plus, my high school is super competitive

Interestingly enough, my ACT was high enough to get me a Presidential Scholars nomination thing. Only 5 kids at my school got it and 3,000 nationally. So far, of that 5, I know one is going to Yale and another is going to MIT. I’m most likely going to NC state, my back up. Clearly, I’m the odd one out of that group. But I’m totally fine with going to State, at least there I know what I’ll study =)

Wow, that’s really impressive. Are you from the Raleigh or Charlotte area? State is my backup as well
