I was just deferred EA from the College of Engineering. I had a 69% chance of getting in, according to Parchment. I have a 4.12/4 weighted GPA, 3.89/4 unweighted GPA, 29 ACT with a 34 on both science and math. I am a Michigan resident. I have numerous extracurriculars, including community service. I am in the NHS, I play varsity football, and track. I am top 10% in my class of 500. I'm just wondering what the chance is of me eventually be admitted to the College of Engineering and when do you think that decision will happen?

Parchment does not differentiate CoE and LSA. If you apply to LSA, it would be a match for in state. For CoE, it would be a low reach even for in state as the mid 50 ACT is 31-34. You should try to improve your ACT before RD. Or you may want to switch to LSA to 8mprove your chance.

My friend and I are both from Hong Kong and we also both got deferred from UMich (LSA for me and CoE for my friend). It doesn’t matter for him though since he already ED’d and got into Cornell Engineering.

My cumulative GPA is only 3.4 UW, but I have had a huge upward trend (2.7 in my first semester as a freshman) while taking much harder courses. I have a 2140 SAT (1480 math + CR), but I think what stands out most in my application are my essays and teacher recs. I have great teachers who really know me and like me, one who I TA for AP economics.

But anyways, I hear a lot of people get deferred from UMich so now its just a matter of waiting…

You marginal for engineering. ACT is low, GPA is average (weighted GPA is meaningless, they don’t look at it). It’s too late to retake the ACT as the Dec. 15 was the last one that would allow you to submit scores in time.
