Hello everyone!

Like many others, I received an email in early December informing me that I had been deferred from the UofM's College of Engineering. I was distraught, and quite upset, but I stayed focused and finished first semester with strong grades. The "Mid-April" decision date is fast approaching, and I am beginning to feel that all too familiar pinch as I check my email and wolverine access daily for an update. I was hoping some of the forum members could offer a little insight to what my chances are at actually getting accepted in the second round?

Credentials:
GPA: 3.7 Unweighted (3.8 weighted)
High-school APs: 7 (above average for the majority of my graduating class)
ACT Composite: 31 (taken twice, first time: 31, and the second time: 30)
Highest Math: 28
Highest Science: 31
English: 33
Reading: 32

End of semester grades include all As and a B+ in AP Physics C.

Extra Curricular Activities include varsity skiing 4 years in a row, foundation of a school mentoring program, various clubs, and community service hours.

I appreciate any and all feedback, and thanks in advance

-Jake

I am not an expert here, but it might be helpful to know if you are IS or OOS. Your math ACT score seems a little low to me for engineering… again - not an expert. Good luck!

Sorry, should have mentioned that. I’m IS

Kind of a low GPA and a low math ACT score.

But you are IS…

I’d say its 50/50. Leaning toward no.

My girlfriend’s daughter got in with a 26 on the ACT and over a 4.00 gpa. She was waitlisted but had taken a couple of math classes during high school at a very good college in our area. Her brother and her dad also graduated from U of M’s Engineering school. She is close to graduating and has a 3.7 at U of M.
I think your c in Physics might be the death blow and your gpa is on their low end of what they seem to like. Have you thought of just applying to the LSA and then trying to get in?
My daughter got into the LSA with a 3.9 gpa and a 29 on the ACT.

Also Jake, not sure what school you go to but they look at the high schools quite differently from what I have heard.
I do think you could get into the LSA school with your test scores and gpa so you may want to ask them if that is possible if it doesn’t work out for you. Then after the first year if your grades are top notch apply to the Engineering school.

This is something I came across a few months back.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - The University of Michigan is sending more deferred admissions letters this academic year because of an increase in applications and a cut in the planned size of the entering class.

The Detroit Free Press says applications to the Ann Arbor school are up about 18 percent this year. At the same time, the university has reduced its target for the 2011 freshman class to 5,700.

The university says it admitted about 6,500 freshmen for 2010-11 – about 400 more than its target.

Recruitment director Erica Sanders says Michigan must be more cautious about its early admissions decisions until it knows how big an increase in applications it will get.

Sanders says the university hopes to be able to admit a larger number of wait-listed students this academic cycle.

Whoops! Allow me to clarify. The name of the course is “AP Physics C”, my current grade is actually a B+.

In addition, does anyone know if it’s possible to change the school to which I am applying? If I’m able to switch to LSA, I would
