I just got deferred from the School of Engineering at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign. I wasn't particularly expecting to get into the engineering school, however, I remain rather confident I'll get in the Division of General Studies. My GPA is slightly above 4, with a hard course load at a well known, good high school in Illinois. Also my ACT is a 31. I know the rate of those accepted who get deferred is slightly higher than 50% for UIUC, but I was wondering if it was any higher for the School of Engineering, and I'd greatly appreciate any other information.

Also, I was already accepted into Purdue's Engineering School and I'm yet to hear about the University of Wisconsin-Madison Engineering School. So what do you think is the best idea if I don't get into UIUC Engineering? Is it better to go to Purdue where I'm already in the Engineering School, or DGS UIUC and try to get into Engineering after Freshman year? And I was also under the assumption that Madison Engineering is better than Purdue's Engineering... is that correct?
