Hey guys! I'm a senior right now and unfortunately I was deferred for the early admission. :( I had a 3.8 gpa, 25 on the ACT and 1040 on the SAT (I think it's because my reading scores on both of the tests were lower than the minimum). However, I brought them both up to a 28 and a 1220 and exceeded both minimum requirements. My semester is about to end, and I think that I might be able to bring my gpa up to a 4.0.

Do you guys think I have a chance at getting in regular decision? And do you know how many freshmen get dorms? I've read some of the other posts with people's preferences numbers in the 5000s and it's getting me worried. :( I don't have to have the best dorm, just any dorm on the campus would be great.

In the past 2-3 years most all freshman got a dorm. There are many students who drop their housing request after they get in to other schools or decide to stay home and attend CC.

I think you are now in for summer. What was the breakdown of your SAT and ACT scores?

I got a 25 on Reading, 26 on Science, 27 on Math, and 32 on English.
And my 1220 SAT score is math and reading only. With writing, I got a 1850.

Does going there for summer guarantee admission for the fall, too? I know one of my friends got accepted in December, and they told her she had to go during the summer.

Summer just means you start summer, but yes you continue on in the fall. Nice job on the scores. I think that had you gotten those scores to begin with you would have been in for fall. But now that you are in the second admission group, they may offer you summer. Not a big deal. Many students request summer to get a little head start. And the more hours you have, the earlier you register for classes as you move up.

and, of course, follow the same advice for housing as on previous thread. that is, at midnight of the day stated for acceptances, log onto housing and put in your request to get the lowest number possible. also, look into the learning communities. If they interest you, you can get in a good dorm that way.

Matt125- Do you mean for Bright Futures? Because I already got a 28 on the ACT composite. And I am retaking the SAT next Saturday, but that’s my last time. Or is there some other scholarship I don’t know about?

Sunnyflorida- Thank you! Okay, that doesn’t sound too bad, lol. Do you know what classes you have to take during the summer? Do they give you specific ones or do you choose? (And sorry I’m asking so many questions!)

Dnerd- My 1220 score is just math and reading. With writing, I got a 1850. :D

Wtztu- Thanks for the advice! I plan on doing that, haha. What exactly are learning communities?

You can take the same classes summer as fall. FSU has most every freshman take ENC 1101 during their first term if they do not have AP or DE credit. Other than that, you can take what you want. Summer is actually summer C term, the second of the two 6 week terms offered in summer. They usually discourage taking math and other heavy duty classes during the 6 week term (fall and spring are 15 weeks) as things move along VERY FAST. But you can take what you want. 2 classes are considered a full load during a 6 week term, given that they meet every day. It is a good time to knock off some gen ed requirements.

Just a heads up – with your ACT score, you will probably get FSU credit for ENC 1101 - even if you haven’t taken an AP or DE class. You may need to ask though. My daughter (English score 29) was notified by FSU of the credit, but my son (English score 34) was not. However, when he asked about it, his advisor told him that he would get the credit and he was enrolled in 1102.

I’m pretty certain that you’ll get in with your stats. The only reason you wouldn’t is if FSU flat runs out of room. Even then, they would probably offer spring admission and allow you to take CC credits during the fall.

Oh okay, I think I’m starting to understand the whole summer term thing better- thanks for explaining!
Is it any AP class? By the time I graduate, I will have taken 9 AP classes, and I’ve already passed two of them. Thanks! :)

Sometime in November I went to talk to a admissions rep online on the college live website, and they told me that they can not accept anyone who has a lower subscore than the minimum. First time around, I had a 490 (SAT) and 21 (ACT) on the reading. I need a 500 and a 22. I was SO close!

and like LTG says, check with them to see if you get out of ENC 1101 or MAC1105 based on your test scores, because they sent me an email saying I did…

Bright Futures is what I was talking about. In that case, you look all set. I’d be shocked if you get denied. Congratulations on your good scores.
