Deferred from JMU :(

I was just deferred from JMU early action & I am very worried I will not be admitted through the regular decision process either & JMU is 100% my top choice school.

•I have taken almost all honors classes
•I’m taking my first AP class this year
•I’m taking a certified nurse aide class this year where I will be able to obtain my CNA certification
•extra curriculars: NHS, working as a lifeguard, volunteering at the SPCA, used to be an all-year-round swimmer (thus why I am just now taking an AP class), was in a medical society club last year, swam on my high school swim team freshman year
•SAT- 1130
•GPA- 3.95
•plan to major in Nursing
I really want to know what I could possibly do to increase my chances of being admitted :frowning:

Send in your mid year grades to the school once you receive then

I wouldn’t fret too much it seems like you have a strong student profile. When I visited JMU they said their medical program is extremely competitive just a heads up tho. Good luck

How were your grades in math and science? What have you taken so far?

H Biology- B+
H Earth Science- A+
H Chemistry- A+
H Anatomy- A+

H Algebra 1- B+
H Geometry- B+
Algebra 2- A+
Trigonometry- A+

I wanted to take probability & statistics this year because I believe that is one of the courses JMU looks for, but I didn’t have enough room in my schedule because I am taking a dual-enrollment type course for becoming a Certified Nursing Aide. I’m getting 40 hours worth of clinical experience in a long term care facility so I’m hoping this will help increase my chances of getting in!

Sounds like you will get in regular decision as long as you have good mid-year grades to send them.

Get good mid year grades and send admissions a letter stating that JMU remains your top choice. You could also send an additional LOR. The lack of AP classes probably hurt you, so if you get good grades in senior year AP classes, that could help. That said, I suspect that the thing that got you deferred was your lowish SAT score (which doesn’t comport with your high GPA). Nothing you can do about that at this point, so you just have to hope your high GPA and (hopefully) good senior year grades are enough to put you over the top.

Hang in there . It will all come together . Best of luck .

And? What was your outcome? It looks like your stats are well within their averages, so I’m surprised. Are you OOS? I’m reading these threads as my son considers JMU next year…

Not OP here but my son was deferred from JMU during early action and then was admitted during regular decision. His SAT was 1280 & GPA was 3.45. In-state northern Virginia. Will be a freshman at JMU in a few weeks.

The original poster did get in - they had posted they got in on one of the regular admission threads.
