So I was deferred from my top choice what do I do next? I know I have to send my mid year report. I was thinking a letter of continued interest, an extra curricular resume, and another letter of reccomendation from a person who got their bachelors and masters at the school. On the other hand what does deferred really mean? Is there any shot at me getting in?

depends on what school we are talking about........public/private, FA/full pay etc...more info pls for us to help

It is Bryant university so it's private. It's also 47 grand a year so I will be applyind for fa. It was my reach school but I did well this semester.

definitely send the letter, extra recs etc....but if Bryant is not need-blind, realize that it may be the issue.......but i would imagine that they are the type of school that really would want to know that you want to be there.....gl

Thank you for your help it is much appreciated!

also, have your GC call and let them know it's your 1st choice......can't hurt

If you didn't apply to any other schools you may want to start as soon as possible.

I applied to 5 schools. I am 2/2 so far. Waiting to hear back from my top 3 Bryant included.

This is a tough year for aid at need aware schools. Unfortunately, many will be deferred or rejected because the college can't meet their need. It may not be your qualifications at all.

My parents make enough, and my dad said we probably won't get financial aid, as both my sisters didn't, we just put it down in case for all of them.

My daughter just got accepted to Bryant, we indicated we would be applying for financial aid although we dont expect any. What were your stats? Did you take them up on an interview?

Yes, I went on an interview and i indicted to them very strongly that it was my top choice, although I met with an admissions fellow, not an admissions officer. My GPA for the school are in the bottom 25% so it was a reach school, but my SATs were above the top 50%.

2.65 GPA, 1190/1600 SAT, Pretty Good EC's, pretty good essay.

My GPA freshman and sophomore year were not good.

HI
Your gpa is really low, why dont you write a letter or continued interest explain your gpa. If you have improved it considerably and show sustained improvement note it in your letter. Deferred means just that. That they have deferred your application and will review it later when they have all the other applicants information. You still have a chance but I would suggest you apply to other colleges to make sure you have a place to go. Try using the college data website to get another perspective of who is getting in.

https://www.collegedata.com/cs/index.jhtml

Build a student profile and put in the colleges you want to go to and it helps with who is getting in and who is not. good luck

I am 2/2 so far with acceptances at Nichols and Western New England College. I also got a 10,000 dollar academic scholarship to both schools. My essay was pretty good and explained some things. But i mean theres nothing to really explain besides the fact i didn't do well until i was a junior when i starting to become more mature and driven. I had a 2.9 last year and a 3.2 this semester of senior year. I already have had a profile at college data for close to a year now.

Hi
It sounds like you are doing the right things. You should still send them a sincere letter on how much you want to go there and if at all possible do an interview. You cant really do much to change your gpa at this point but you can show your continued interest. They also have some opportunities to go to events at the college that might be worth your while. My daughter is doing a ladies night there where she will have the opportunity to spend the night, attend a class and get to know the atmosphere of the school. Those types of events are posted on their website. Good luck, I know how frustrated students are with this process. When will you hear from them for regular decision?

Thanks, not until mid march

I absolutely would write a letter and send an updated transcript showing the marked improvement this semester. What's to lose at this point, with a deferral?

What does everyone think of including in the letter something like "While I already have some acceptances in hand, Bryant remains my no. 1 choice." Would show he's not desperate ...

I'm a student at Bryant and it is getting exponentially more selective each year. Also expanding which is why the acceptance rate is not exactly doing their selectivity justice. A few of my friends from hs with a 3.6 got denied, I was more in your situation. I got waitlisted but my brother was an alum so he wrote me a letter and i got accepted. I was in your position though so trust me its possible. If you know an alum that wouldn't mind writing you a letter that would be huge bc they are big on alumni relations, also I had a teacher of mine in hs write an amazing letter to them, If you have a teacher you know who would be willing to do that, I would suggest that, also. If you have any questions about life at bryant please don't hesitate to ask, when you get the letter let me know
