I've just heard back from my TOP choice school only to hear that I got deferred. It was a bit of a reach, but I am geniunly upset I did not get in - I had other credentials besides my GPA/SAT that I had thought worked in my favor.

The school does not require a midyear report or teacher reccomendations - they don't want me to send anything else in and won't accept anymore SAT scores.

I was thinking about writing a letter and sending it to the dean/admissions office showing my genuine commitment and such. Is this the way to go? What else could I possibly do/write about?

You could do that and they may consider you. But the best thing is probably to move on and to apply to any of the other schools you may not have applied to yet. Which school is this may I ask?

Georgia Institute of Technology.

My daughter's deferral letter didn't say not to send anything more in so she sent a letter reiterating interest and updating her resume. I don't know whether you should do that or not if the school says they don't want any more info. That seems a little unfair if you've recently done something noteworthy.

I say write a letter. About 20 people in my class got deferred from Tech, and my Spanish teacher told us to write a letter (if it's our genuine 1st choice). She says it's worked for a lot of people in the past.
