Deferred from Ohio State University: Writing a Letter of Continued Interest

I was deferred from OSU’s Speech and Hearing Sciences program late last month (January). I have already sent in my updated transcript and would like to now send in a Letter of Continued Interest.
I’ve already talked a little with my guidance counselor about it, but I’m just not really sure where I should start or how long it should be, etc.
I also know that many people use these letters as an opportunity to update schools on things that have happened since they first applied, however, nothing worth mentioning has happened with me since I first applied.

So basically these are the things my counselor and I thought would be worth mentioning:

  • For the past three years, I have been incredibly involved in two journalism courses (broadcasting for the first two years, and yearbook now) which has made it nearly impossible for me to participate in other extracurriculars. I was extremely involved and a producer (equivalent to yearbook editor) in broadcasting, but because of the time commitment, I knew that I could not do both and so I chose to take yearbook because it is something I have always wanted to do and, as a senior, I knew that this was my final chance to be a part of the yearbook staff.
  • I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was six and depression when I was thirteen. I was prescribed medication for the treatment of my ADHD at the beginning of the second semester of my freshman year, which not only helped me manage my ADHD, but also helped with my depression, and we saw an immediate improvement in my grades. Every year since then, I have become better and better at managing my ADHD which is reflected in my GPA’s continuous improvement.
  • I chose to take an extra math course this year. It’s online and through a local community college.
  • Not only do I love OSU for its traditions and high academic standards, but I also love Columbus and have always dreamt of moving there. It’s my dream school and if I’m admitted I will most definitely accept.
