What gives? Deferred from my safety? I’m going to get rejected from all of my top choices
OMG thats crazy! What is your ranking? Weighted gpa? Course rigor? How were your essays?
What other schools did you apply to? In state?
As asked above, what were your ECs and other stats? Did you have a discipline record? This is such a fluke, I’m so sorry.
Just checked after reading this, I was deferred too.
Academics:
1360 SAT
3.82 GPA unweighted
Didn’t know my school ranked at the time of applying but I am 31/600
3 years of classes at a local technical college, two of which directly linked to my major of interest
Multiple art and technology awards
2 APs, all others honors
EC/Points of interest:
Student Government participation all years, from Freshman Class President, Student Body Treasurer, to SGA president
Founder of my school’s Music Club and Music Outreach Innitiative
I work full-time at two jobs to support my family but still volunteer with local programs
I went blind when I was 12 and go to schools across the county giving a presentation on medicine safety and the benefits of vaccination
Honestly I may not even bother to send my semester transcripts in. Yesterday I got accepted to the Keiser Flagship Campus with a $36,000 scholarship, these are the only two colleges I have heard back from so far out of ten.
@annabanabelle how is that possible? You have good test scores, great gpa, good rigor, great class rank, and great ec’s. I know people with lower stats from my school who got in. When did you apply? Maybe if you applied late they are starting to get more competitive than in the beginning?
Colleges seem to be ferretting out applicants that view their school as a “safety” and defer them instead of accepting them. If you really want to go to UCF then now would be the time to convince the AO that is the case. A ton of these qualified deferred applicants won’t do anything else signaling that they aren’t really interested in attending UCF.
@CU123 I’ve heard that before but didn’t know if it was true. If this happens, how do you convince the AO? Sending in a resume?
Are you in the top 10% of your class? UCF has an automatic admissions policy for students who are in the top 10%. If you are in the top 10% I would reach out to admissions ASAP, because based on your stats UCF is a clear safety.
@PhilM1 in response to your question in #7 sending in a resume doesn’t show your interest in the school. A better route would be writing a letter expressing your interest or even calling in the school to express how serious you are about attending.
@itsintheprocess oh ok thank you for the clarification.
@itsintheprocess also @annabanabelle would be in the top 10%
@PhilM1 @annabanabelle They may have changed the automatic acceptance program then. Last year I was granted automatic acceptance because I was in the top 10% of my class. Maybe they felt that this program was no longer a sufficient way to do acceptances. This program is also only available for those who are residents of FL
@annabanabelle I would check there website and see if UCF still offers automatic acceptance for those who are in the top 10% and if they do I would contact admissions ASAP because this seems like an oversight.
@itsintheprocess I hope it didn’t change because I’m applying there next year and it’s my second option
@PhilM1 things change year to year, but from what I was told last year there top 10 nights program has been around for a while, so if that gives you any reassurance I feel like it would be odd to get rid of said program.
@PhilM1 I applied in early November but they took so long to process my application fee waiver that my application didn’t get processed until the 2nd or 3rd of January.
@CU123 That is what I was thinking, I applied to UCF strictly as a safety and I think I was found out 8-|
@itsintheprocess I’m really not interested in attending, Keiser is now my safety and with the scholarship it looks like a much better option for me than UCF.
I hope that someone with more interest and passion geared towards the school gets the spot.
Sometimes admissions make a mistake. It never hurts to contact admissions and ask about your application, maybe they where missing a key bit of information. Some schools also have an appeal process, which sometimes works if the school did lose some of your records, etc.
i forgot to send my residency info as well as my old transcripts for freshman and sophomore year (i moved from to the US in september 2016). this is why i was deferred, but i don’t care enough about UCF to deal with all this stuff lol
My high school in the US doesn’t rank
my courses were all pre-ib, and honors/AP/dual enrollment in the US.
Worth mentioning I am a US citizen as my father is American, as well as a Florida resident.
I’ve sent in everything but my AP scores, which the portal stated were necessary for enrollment but no an admissions decision. There were a few problems with my transcripts, the portal danced around and asked for different information that was already on the documents they received. I would e-mail and explain and would never get a response, but their request for something to put in would change.
My experience with admissions was enough of a nightmare to drive me out.
