Deferred from UConn

Hey, so, I applied to UConn in early november and am still waiting on a final answer from them. I'm very anxious because they're my first choice and I have no real back up. When I got deferred in mid February, I sent them my mid year grades, an extra recommendation letter by my math teacher ( I got deferred because of my low math SAT score, and an additional essay which included new awards, why I want to go, my passion for english, my persistance in math, and stating that Uconn is my first choice school. I'm so worried and I feel like it's a no from them :/. Here are my stats:

SAT Math: 440
SAT English: 620
SAT writing: 630

Gpa unweighted: 3.7

EC:
Soccer team
Track team
Musicals
Started literary magazine at my school

Awards:
Outstanding perfomances in english and choir.
Pathfinder scholarship nominee for literature
Honorable mention at scholastics writing awards
Senior superlative in the area of french
outstanding perfomance in french.
I'm hispanic/latina and am out of state from Florida. Do I even stand a chance v

Is there anyway you could retake the SATs and resend them?

Did you apply to other schools? What does “no real backup” mean? If you dont want to go to any of the other schools you applied to and are accepted to, you could sit out a year and go to colllege in Fall of 2012? Its not so bad as you think it could be to do so. The one thing I see is that the Math SAT is low, as you mentioned. You could study hard in Math, retake the SAT and increase the score for next year? Just trying to help. I dont have a crystal ball to be able to tell what UConn will do, but they have to let you know by 4/1, right?

I can’t retake the SATs at this point; already asked :/.

And by no “real backup”, i mean that the schools I did get into are schools I don’t want to go to. Now that i’ve had ample time to investigate and get to know the schools, I realzied that none of them are for me. I got into Elon, College of Charleston, Emerson College, Suffolk University, University of Alabama, and Roger Williams University.

I don’t think a gap year is an option for me. I think they notify me April first or mid april. Is it possible to get into this school with a 440 Math score??

Statistics below from 2008 I found on web. 25% of admitted persons had less than a 570 math.
I can’t tell you whether you will get in or not…

So the realistic choices are:
U Conn accepts you

or they dont and you need to re-assess what you can or cannot do, and then do 1 of the following:

1, Retake SATs, reapply to UCONN for Spring semester, if they take people then.
2. Retake SATs, apply to another school for Spring semester
3. Go to Community college for 1-2 yrs, apply to U Conn
4. Sit 2011 out (get a job, earn money, do something interesting), retake sats, reapply to Uconn for 2012 fall.

I am hoping I dont sound too harsh, but as time runs out, the # of options for the current year dwindle,

especially if you choose to reject 6 of the 7 schools you applied to.

Percent of Applicants Admitted: 54%

Test Scores – 25th / 75th Percentile

* SAT Critical Reading: 540 / 630

 • SAT Math: 570 / 660
 • SAT Writing: 550 / 640

Thank you gnw213, you didn’t come off as harsh in any way. I’ll hope for the best and probably do one of the following options you listed; or transfer from one of the schools i was accepted to. Hopefully I get into UConn so I won’t have to, though.
