I got deferred because of my SAT scores. I do have low SAT scores but I was hoping that my class rank and my gpa would save me. I called them last week to ask if I can turn in recommendation letters or stuff and they strictly told me no, just SAT/ACT scores.

My SAT scores are:
Math: 470
Reading: 460
Writing: 440

:'( I already took it twice with about the same scores.

I just got my ACT scores:
Composite: 21
English: 18
Math: 17
Reading: 27
Science: 22

Will this help me get into UCF? or should I take the January SAT's.

What is your GPA?
I’m in somewhat of a similar situation. I have a 560 R 370 M 610 W SAT and I just took my ACT so it hasn’t been sent yet 21 (27 R 24 E 18 S 16 M) w/ a 4.8 W, 3.6-7 UW. I haven’t heard back yet and I applied in October. When did you apply? Hopefully our 21’s are good enough . Depends on everything else though I guess.
But since you’ve been deferred is there a Feb. SAT? B.c if you take it in Jan and are not really prepared it will be counter productive (I know from experience) and their deadline isn’t for a while so you may want to take that one ? Or you should retake the ACT actually. I’m pretty sure your ACT is way better than your SAT.

Yeahh im in a similar situation aswell…I applied in October…October 7th to be exact…and i STILL havent found out yet. But my ACT scores were really bad…i took it 3 times and i got an 18. 19. and again 19…so im not planning on taking it again because everyone has told me, including teachers, that once u take it two to three times your chances of actually improving are really not that high. I have a good GPA, involved in a lottt of clubs, 250 community service hours…etc…People have told me though that if you havent heard back from them yet then consider it a good thing…not a bad thing. If i dont get a reply from them by january 7th im going to email them so see what is taking so long because its not normal…

yeahh i dont know whats taking them sooo long to give an admission decision…but dont worry about it cuz usually students who get deferred USUALLY not all the times though…get accepted a few weeks later. and if you REALLY want to go to UCF and its ur first choice and u dont get accepted then theres always the possibility of going to Valencia Community College which is right next to UCF and it guarantees a direct gateway to ucf. Thats what i will do if i dont get accepted. GOODLUCK!

Thank You <3! it is my 1st choice, but i also applied to FIU which is like 10 minutes away from me, I hope I get accepted there too!
UCF got my act scores today, it still says deferred. Hopefully it chances soon! lol

and if anything goes bad i’ll just go to Miami-Dade College :/

oh really? im like 20 mins from FIU too lol…I live in Weston but i didnt apply there…orlando is where i really want to go. so well see what happens :)

Did you get your writing score? I thought the ACT website said scores can be sent until the writing scores are in? Ohh and how do you know they got your scores ? Did you call ?

Your december ACT scores are not much better than your SAT scores (they are the equivalent of an SAT range of 980-1010) and this is too low for UCF. Take the SAT again in January. Try to get that SAT math and reading total to 1100 for a shot (assuming that your class rank and GPA really are good, if not, you need even higher SAT’s to compensate).

Thanks all you guys for responding.
I think I won’t make it.

And yep! i got my writing score and everything. UCF got them today, its in my Portal.
and I’m going to call UCF on Monday, I think thats when the offices are open again from break.

Also, when I got deferred i asked the lady if i can change from fall to summer and she told me that first time college applicants are automatically considered for both summer and fall terms.

^ True but idk I’m sending in the reactivation form… b.c if they consider me borderline for fall they may want me to retest and all that ish but I just want to get in lol, so hopefully I can get in summer term. & Argh! My writing scores aren’t up

i also tested poorly all 4 times that i took the SAT, but showed a little improvement here and there. i think it helped show them that i kept trying. they do automatically consider you for both summer and fall terms, however when I got deferred I sent in the reactivation form, switching to summer and they accepted me around 2 weeks later. on that form they ask a reason and i put that ucf was my first choice and just wanted to get my foot in the door, etc. it worked.

In my experience, the January SATs were tougher than the ones before summer.
Taking them during May or June won’t help out much in your case though. "/

I would sign up to take the next SAT, whenever it is, and start cramming with the blue College Board SAT book. It’s extremely helpful. Just lock yourself in a quiet room for as many hours as you can spare in a day and work with the blue book. It helped me to raise my scores into the 2100’s. :]

^thanks! I got my act scores of 21, but i guess I’m still deferred. I’m studying to retake it in February and trying to get a 25. Using phuloridian tip :D
