So, I got deferred in the ED pool. My quesiton is: Should I re-take SAT II(s).
Here are my scored thus far:

Math II - 730
Physics -710
USH - 680

I'm thinking about re-taking Math II and going for the 800.
Advice?

I mean, if you think you have a good shot and you have time to prepare (instead of doing other apps), by all means go ahead. Just weight your benefits and costs.

70 points won’t turn a deferred student to an accepted student, I say don’t waste your time with a retake

I’d have to disagree with columbiafan. You were deferred because you are currently on the fence. Any effort to improve in areas currently lacking will help make your case an easier decision for the admissions officers. In fact, I’d be willing to bet that the majority of deferred applicants who were ultimately accepted made at minimum a small improvement to their application between evaluations.

Also, SAT IIs provide an opportunity to show off academically in subjects that you have the freedom to choose yourself. Especially given the generous curves on SAT IIs, for schools like Columbia it is expected to see scores near the upper ranges. You still have some room for improvement here. Not every deferred applicant has clear areas in which they can improve, but you do. Why not take every opportunity to polish your application when Columbia has already showed interest in you?

Are you planning on a math/science/engineering major? I would agree with figment, getting a 750+ is a good idea, not only to show that you have the capability to do math, but also that you have the motivation and interest in the school to make this improvement. If you’re more interested in humanities, that USH score might be a higher priority.

Thinks I will retake. Going as a physics message.
