I am shocked I was deferred. It's funny because I was accepted at the University of Chicago EA. Chicago, no offense, is leaps and bounds ahead of BC. I'm curious as to why BC deferred me...

jamesn

that is extremely odd... can you think of any reason beyond your scores and such that they would defer you.... im shocked as well

Uh oh.. I'm a legacy as well....

but no response yet.

i feel bad for u guys i only had a 1360 and got in haha

maybe a little to early for that jcg

yea jcg, not the time for that now or ever...

and btw, college admissions aren't based on SAT scores alone. if they were, decisions could be made in a day by a computer ;-) so pointing out that you got in with your score and others with higher scores didn't doesn't mean much

^Yeah, really.

I'm really surprised about some of the people who posted here...do you think maybe Tufts Syndrome came into play here?

idk esgee but it almost seems that.

BC is crazy for deferring kids with stats like that!!

wow @ james. yeah they are really fickle. i was accepted as a transfer but when i talked to a counselor they used the word "lucky." i wonder if they really do see which paper lands the farthest for good students :P

Very good teacher recommendations, one of them he was my favorite teacher and we had a really good relationship. He's still my teacher this year for a different subject and he's been dying to hear if I got in. I'm telling him the bad news tomorrow... Don't know about counselor's, shes a bit sketchy.
I thought my essay was good. I wrote about a violin cultural exchange thing I did in Peru, where we played for orphanages. More specifically, I talked about a certain boy I interacted with and how that interaction touched and greatly morphed my perspective on the world around me as well as on human nature itself. Apparently it wasn't good enough though...?

Comments:
When I got my letter of deferral I was shocked in general. My friends who are my school's val and sal were deferred from Yale and Stanford respectively earlier this week, but I never thought that the same thing would happen with me and BC. I'm still confused as to where my application was weak. Was it my GPA and rank? Doesn't BC take into account the rigor of the coursework? Do they even know what IB is, lol? I'm just really disappointed.

My S has similar stats (33ACT, 2APs w/5s, one with a 4, taking all APs this year, top 25% of very competitive CT public high school, loads of focused ECs). He has always taken the most rigorous courseload possible. We're not surprised though because we know how hard it is to be accepted from our area of CT. Where are you all from? Usually only the top 10% or so from our school are accepted at BC.

jcrew and mdshin2001... theres no way you guys got deferred..

On the one hand, congratulations on your acceptance; on the other, no need to be unkind

I can think of one reason I may have been deferred. I had a conversation with an admissions officer about majoring in Economics in CSOM and International Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences. Essentially, I was quite critical (in a goodish way) of BC's lack of international focus and after analyzing requirements found that I would not be able to double major in those two subjects. I think the admissions officer might have taken that as an "i'm not interested" as this conversation happened after I sent in my app.
Truth be told, I wasn't too interested. BC is a great school to have been accepted to, nonetheless. I am still confused, but I have one explanation.

Boston College has been known for deferring/rejecting those who are simply using them as a safety school.
