Deferred U Mich Ann Arbor Class of 2021

Hey guys! Don’t lose hope last year the next batch of decisions for deferred came out early February! Most of umich class is from regular decision! They accept many deferred students it’s not like getting deferred at Harvard which is like a rejection. Just keep up your grades and send a letter of interest! Umich defers a lot of ppl especially oos high stats because they think those ppl r not going to come. Make sure u show that umich is your #1!

@ashtray16 totally thought the hail interview would’ve helped out. A bit disappointed to have gone through those efforts without getting the result I wanted. Where did you hear that info from? Thanks!

Applied COE oos-ny w/ 3.7 gpa 1430 sat and 32 act and got deferred. Also did the hail interview. Really bummed out and this really makes winter break a lot less enjoyable now knowing I may have to wait until April to find out my actual decision.

Did everyone who applied to CoE get offered HAIL interviews?

Anyone get a different deferral letter than this?

"Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan College of XXX. We are pleased that you have applied and are impressed with your achievements. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, we are writing to inform you that your application is currently being deferred for further review. An official communication will be sent to your email address on file.

While this is not the answer that you were hoping to hear, your application remains under consideration. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than early April, 2017.

Strong fall semester or trimester grades may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward them when they become available. Beyond that, we are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision. The most successful candidates send us only what we require. Please refer to the website https://umich.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2080 for FAQ?s about the admission process and what to do next.

We hope your interest in Michigan continues. You have our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful end of your senior year."

Applied LSA with preferred admission to Ross. ACT 33, 3.85 GPA, relevant EC’s, good essays (imo). Hopefully I end up getting in!

Last year some deferred applicants got in February, does anyone have details about whether this could happen to us?

Look’s like we are all in this together for the long run. We haven’t won the game yet but that’s why it’s going to taste so sweet when we get finally accepted in the coming months.

As for the letter of continued interest, I read it is best to send it to your regional admissions officer after the New Years since they are going to be getting swamped with emails between now and the end of the holidays.

Also deferred from CoE. I was just wondering if changing applications from CoE to LSA is even worth it and if it would increase odds of admission? According to the admissions people at U of M, they said that: “Changing schools does not affect your admission results; you can make the decision as to which school you think is a better fit for you.” Opinions?

Also a deferred and discouraged OOS applicant. I don’t know what will happen this year, but according to a threat last year, people were notified of acceptances upon deferrals on 2/27, so hopefully there will be a similar trend if not sooner. Does anyone have stats for percentage of kids accepted after deferred? From what I’m reading, it seems somewhat likely.

@T05L01 How do you go about changing which school you apply to? Is it on Wolverine Access?

@Dlue14 Not sure. All they said was that it was possible.

@jjrrdd I’m also wondering the same thing! It seems like many students get deferred. When do you guys plan on sending your letter of interest?

@nomusicnolifex I want to send mine as soon as possible but I’ve heard i should wait

I’ll draft mine probs right after Christmas and make sure it is absolutely perfect. Then send it in around 1/2- 1/4. That seems like a safe time.
Are there any letters of interest that we can see for an example? I kinda would like to get a general idea about that process. After my calc test tomorrow, that is my number 1 priority.

To everybody (including me) who was deferred:
ENJOY YOUR VACATION. You deserve it. You’ve clearly worked hard enough to be in this position. Take some time off. Enjoy yourself. Now that decisions are out, you can relax. Don’t worry about your decision for a while. It won’t do you any good. Focus on those grades and enjoy senior year! Us deferred applicants can freak out again in late January. Good luck to everyone stuck in the rd pool!

@UofMichigan1999 Are you not on break yet?! Good luck on calc tomorrow!

Don’t worry it’s unpredictable I have a 33 ACT and a 4.0 unweighted and 4.6 weighted and was just deferred also:( doesn’t make since to me but idk…

Did any denials come out today? Would they come out to EA applicants since we just know of acceptances or deferrals?

@sciencegirl20 I am also bummed about the HAIL interview, thought it would a little more and the way my interviewer talked made it seem like I would be fine. I heard this from students last year, so no gaurantee it is true but most likely as this is always the case. They will release another batch of acceptances for deferrals likely in January, maybe Feb. and many more CoE get in. I have many friends last year that that was the case for them.
