I was deferred SFS EA :-\ I sent in a letter stating that I'm still very interested in Gtown and a bunch of things I've accomplished since I applied in October. Any thoughts of my chances of being accepted regular? I kinda gave up hope, meh.

I expanded a great deal on the volunteer work at the Spanish speaking elemenatary school--- I organized five food drives, a pen pal program between 50 AP spanish students and 50 3rd graders at the school and a field trip for those students to meet the other students. I also got a 4.8 W GPA first semester and a few little awards. Think that would be enough to tip the scales?

I would guess the big thing holding you back is your class rank. If your counselor already explained that when you applied EA, and assuming it didn't jump to much with the latest semester, my personal guess is that it would continue to hold you back.

It's impossible to tell what goes on in admission committee's minds. I'm just saying when I look at the stuff you posted, being in the 93rd percentile at a school where 1/3 of the class was val, sal, or 3rd in their class seems like the most obvious candidate for why you weren't accepted in the first place. I would certainly agree that being in the top 6-7% of your class is nothing to be ashamed of, but I'm just trying to guess what the admission committee is thinking, and if your counselor's letter didn't rectify that concern at first (as far as we can tell anyway), I don't anticipate the situation dramatically improving.

But this is just one random guy on the internet's guess, take it with a bucket of salt.

I feel for you on the whole abroad year thing. I spent a year in Turkey and most of my classes were Turkish literature, Military science, religion, Turkish history, basically classes that didn't count towards graduation, so this year I'm bogged down with about 9 classes just to graduate. My grades also sucked because all my classes were in Turkish. I'm applying to SFS. I hope that they take into consideration our circumstances. As long as your counselor explains everything, I think you should have a pretty fair shot :)
