ChandlerBing, you were deferred from HumEc?! I'm sorry. Dammmn admissions are crazy this year. Ugh reading this thread has stressed me out...I know Cornell doesn't just care about numbers, also fit, but you and Shifu both had the numbers and looked like good fits for your major....I don't get admissions. I hope what you said about HumanEc rejecting in-staters isn't true...I am now planning on applying for Spring '10 instead of Fall '09

I was kinda surprised by the deferral, I know :(
My main EC's were in the healthcare/public health fields too.
Well, I might get in RD? Maybe? If the Cornell gods decide that I'm worthy?
It's just a theory, I really have no idea. But I'm being a crazy person and applying to a fair amount of Ivies/really selective places because I'm cool like that. When I didn't see the "Congratulations!" I knew I was in for a horrible night. But I'm being optimistic and 3/4-heartedly filling out RD applications today (today is a very convenient snow/ice day).
Cayuga's reading my common app and HumEc essays to see if they're why I got deferred, they may very well be why.

Has anybody seen JaySong? I hope he's doing okay, no matter the decision was. He seemed a bit nervous about it, to say the least.

Yeah....haven't heard from him since yesterday. Hope everything is alright on his end....

I haven't seen JaySong... I really hope he's alright.
Cayuga: did you read the essays? I'd love to hear what you thought of them... they could be why I was deferred.

Chandler -- I unfortunately have to get back to work... I'm thankfully still employed and need the health insurance! I'll get back to you later this weekend.

i didnt apply to cornell but ya im having troubles with my esay too

Okay, thanks Cayuga!
I'll be looking forward to your honest opinions :)

RD apps are really making my day super-fun.

JaySong told me he got rejected unfortunately....
I got deferred by the way- I'm rather glad because I thought I'd get rejected outright. I still have some hope remained..
Cayuga// Would you read my Cornell supplement please if I PM it to you also? Thank you very much!

Oh no! Poor JaySong...
It seems like Cornell did outright reject, and not just defer, a lot of applicants. Maybe there's some hope for us!

I'm sorry to hear about JaySong's rejection...I know he really wanted this...hope he finds he a place that he loves :-)

Also wanted to mention that if you'd like another set of eyes to take a peek at your essays let me know via PM...I'll send you my e-mail address b/c I hate reading essays through the PM interface on CC.

Ughh called ILR admissions and they basically said they wouldnt look at my file and read any of the comments. Pretty much stuck in limbo for a while without knowing what they didnt like. Ughh.

cheers,
mike

Miktau, try getting a guidance counselor to do so? It might be that they don't tell students (I'm not sure as I had my counselor check for me, but I assumed they did because one or two other schools told me what I had done wrong after RD admissions when I was curious). Or it might be that they're swamped at the moment, so waiting a few weeks until after the holidays might help as well?

Cayuga: Thank you for your kind comments!! I feel much better now. The weird thing is that I made it clear in my essays that I wanted to explore ways of helping rural communities through the life science (due to experiences I had in my childhood). I guess Cornell is kinda iffy about my honesty?

You don't have to apologize ^^! Your zeal on this forum is felt by all the rejects/deferrals/acceptees!! Add oil~

EDIT: Even though I was deferred, I still LOVE Cornell!!! I just LOVE IT!!! Go BIG RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
