Deferred-what's next for me?

So I got deferred from CoE yesterday and it is sort of what I expected. But I really want to be accepted as michigan is my first choice, on the defer FAQ it didn't say anything about first semester/first 2 mp grades.
They do require them for deferred students right? Or are they going to make a decision based on the info they have?

Also anyone who was deferred in the past: when did you get your final decision? Could possibly be accepted/denied before April or is that when everyone finds out?

Thanks in advance.

i hope we aren’t required to send in the grades because mine suck this year, been having issues in my personal life + super hard classes

Join the club. The deferral rate seems to be noticeably up this year; it’s been posited that UM is trying to lessen the advantage for EA applicants - a fair measure to be taken but a jarring one all the same. I got deferred and my qualifications were, well, pretty good, I’d say.

We shouldn’t give up hope yet. Deferral is a lot better than waitlisting, and we can still improve our chances of eventual acceptance. Yes, though, I believe we will have to have our mid-year grade reports sent in, though our schools should take care of the task for us. As I have a few 88-range grades, I’m working my butt off to swing as many A’s as I can this year.

Yea I’m not to worried about my grades, I have 1 B each marking period and the rest are As with 2 APs.

Do you guys think a deferral is anything to be proud of? I mean I haven’t seen any EA rejections so I’m wondering if they just defer everyone…

Very few outright rejections, if any, are given to EA applicants. Being deferred is not something to be ashamed or proud of-- it’s essentially just a delay in your decision. Once your actual decision comes in, then that’s when you can decide how you should feel about it. Regardless, I don’t think being rejected is something to be ashamed of. Your pride doesn’t hinge on whether or not a few people in an admissions office want you to attend the school they work for.
