<p>Anyway, I think the beauty of the phrase HOOK UP is in its ambiguity. If you want to get the point across that you were involved physically with somebody but don't want to be specific then it's perfect. I think it also depends on age. I have found that in high school to hook up usually doesn't imply sex but it does more so in college. At least among people I know.</p>

I understand a lot of you think of oral sex as "real sex" rather than hooking up but I think sexual intercourse is much more intimate and serious than oral. The term is different for every person, which is why people like to use it - they can make themselves seem more or less slutty based on what impression they want to make. If you really want to know what your friend did exactly, ask. Otherwise, you know that they got physically involved with someone...and you can mind your own business.</p>
