Degree Works and AP credit

The community college through which my DS has his AP/DE credit sent a transcript to UA at the end of last week for credit “up to now”. Hoping to make BamaBound scheduling a little easier. We would like to see what UA is going to accept as credit. Degree works has his info loaded and core requirements. Does anyone know how long it will take them to show the AP credit??

Don’t worry about AP credit showing up. If they show up soon, great. If they don’t, not a problem :)

Bama lets kids sign up for classes at Bama Bound with the assumption that they have passed the AP exams.

Have you arranged for Collegeboard to send his AP credits from past exams?

Does that mean that one does not have to send them the scores? Hmm

m2ck, I’ve have not had collegeboard send the AP scores. He has some 5’s and is taking 3 more this week and a couple more next week. Does it show on his account for SAT’s? I don’t remember seeing anything from collegeboard???

No…I meant for registering purposes at Bama Bound. Yes, you have to send your scores if you want credit for them on your record.

I was addressing the concern about registering for Bama Bound. At that point, kids won’t have many/all of their scores sent yet.

When my kids took their AP exams, they put Alabama down as the destination for their scores. I think they had to put Bama’s code down (don’t remember). Scores were sent to Bama in July. I don’t know if the previous years’ scores were sent earlier or not.

I don’t think AP scores get sent with SAT scores.

Anyway…during Bama Bound, they let you sign up for the “next level” with the assumption that you passed. If you later find out you didn’t, then you get bumped down.

[AP Score Reporting Services](AP Score Reports – AP Central | College Board)

*AP score reports are provided to the college designated on the student’s registration answer sheet, to the student, and to the student’s secondary school. The reports are cumulative and include scores for all the AP Exams a student has ever taken, unless the student has requested that one or more scores be withheld from a college or canceled.

Most AP score reports are provided in July. Some reports take longer to process because of problems with identification information or the late arrival of materials from the testing locations. Students who have not received a score report by September 1 should contact AP Services. *

Thinking I was on top of things, I had D’s scores from last year sent last week using the phone service on the College Board website. Today she said her teacher told them that if you put the code on this year’s tests they will send the previous ones as well. I guesss I didn’t have to do that after all! At least last year’s will be there before Bama Bound.

I’m glad to know they will assume they passed for registration purposes.

Thanks for the help everyone. I DID go to the collegeboard site to see if I could send the test results. I also saw that the test scores are cumulative. He did put Bama down for his test today, so I assume they will send last year’s scores also. Does anyone think I should go ahead and order last years to be sent now rather than July? Also, how generous is Bama in accepting the DE/DC credits from the community college the high school uses?

I’ve got a couple of questions about the AP credits.

D took the English Language exam last year and got a 4 so she will get credit for EN101 and EN102. She is taking the English Literature exam this week. Do I understand correctly that there is no credit for this one? Not even an elective?

Computer Science exam doesn’t count toward the “C” core requirement, correct?

Like many schools, Bama only gives English credit for one or the other AP exam. I don’t believe there would be elective credit either since there isn’t anything to call it.

AP Computer Science does not count towards the C requirement. It counts as:

Computer Science A … 3 … CS 150:160:250…5 –
Computer Science AB … 4 … CS 260…3 –

For some reason (I don’t know why), Statistics counts as a C requirement.

Statistics 3 ST 260 3 C

This link will show you which classes fufill C req’t…

AP sends scores for every AP test you’ve ever taken unless you specifically tell them not to. SAT scores are a separate thing and not sent with AP scores.

With dual credit, you will have to send an official transcript that lists all classes taken and their grades after grades for their final term have been posted.

As m2ck said, UA only awards credit for one AP English exam. I didn’t take the AP lit test because I already had a 4 on the AP language&composition test. She may be able to cancel her exam and get a partial refund, but her teacher may tie some incentive to taking the exam.

UA is very generous with dual enrollment credits in my experience. They accepted everything I took, but a couple classes only transferred as elective credit, which I was expecting anyway. I for one am really glad that UA accepts dual enrollment credit as so many schools don’t (which really annoyed me when applying to schools). Some classes may transfer oddly, but that’s part of the fun. For example, I have credit for “Chemistry for Nurses.”

Statistics 260 is somewhat computer-based and hence the C designation. Note that it does completing or testing out of CS 102.

Thanks m2ck and S_t. That is what I thought, but just wanted to confirm.

At my D’s school you can’t opt out of the test if you’ve taken the class. She isn’t very excited about studying for AP’s this year so actually this works out rather nicely!

My D already has a 5 on an AP English test and would love to skip the AP lit exam! Glad you mentioned this, Sea_tide. Major senioritis setting in at home.

Same here. DS also has a 5 on AP English. Debating on telling him about the lack of credit for the test on Friday!!! He’d probably take it anyway…They get $100 for a 5!! Can anyone say INCENTIVE???

Bamafana – that’s a lot of sweet tea!

Wow, Bamafama. That kind of moola makes me want to take a shot at the test!

Bamafana - that’s one way to ward off Senioritis!

Oh forgot to mention, the TEACHER gets $100 also for each student that gets the 5! DS’s teacher would probably strangle him if he didn’t take it!!!
