Delaware Class of 2018 Acceptances

Mwallenmd is correct. We went thru this years ago with my D only to find out that the portal will say that for months. Of course back then there was only one notification period which was in March but I remember all of us trying to figure out what that meant until finally someone called the school and they clarified its intent which is exactly as Mwallenmd states. It is hard to wait but unfortunately part of the process :(

Thanks! I was hoping it meant something…oh well, time will tell :)

dogsrthebest… yes we certainly are in the same boat! ok… new twist to our story… one of my son’s classmates got his acceptance today… generally about 65-75 apply each year from our school. This is the first we have heard of today getting word back. Now my son is eager and interested on getting a response! nothing yet in the mail. Of course I have no idea what my son’s friend’s intended major is or when he applied so I know it means nothing in terms of our application but it does raise anxiety a bit more. ugh! :)

Wow lefty1 that is a lot of kids in one school applying to the same school.

yes, I am in Somerset County in NJ. About 575 kids in each class so a bigger school. The last three years they have accepted aprox 21-25 of those 75 kids. so about a 33% acceptance rate from our school. I’m sure some of those kids were not really eligible, etc… Each year we send about 5-6 students to UD. My D’s year only 3 went but then 3 more that didn’t get accepted joined them sophomore year after doing freshman year at another school.

just keep waiting… just keep waiting… just keep waiting… :)

Boy its been silent anybody out there ?

finally figured out how to sign on to this new format! lol… My son’s portal was changed today to “official notice via mail” Nothing in the mail today… holding my breath it’s not bad news. Thinking it may be a “split” acceptance. Yes to University Studies and No to business school. ugh… we shall see…

My daughter’s portal was also changed yesterday to “official notice via mail”. Hopefully something in the mail soon.

hi guys good luck to you fingers crossed let us know prays for a good outcome for you both

thanks! :)

Not to ruin your moods, but my status changed to “Official Notification via Mail” almost a month ago now and still nothing.

I don’t think you can put much stock into what the portal says. My daughter’s portal said “under review” even after she got her acceptance letter in the mail. When I called the admissions office they said the portal just hadn’t “flipped” yet. Then last week, my daughter changed her major - and even though we received a confirmation email from admissions saying that her major had been changed and would be reflected on the portal in 3 to 5 days - her portal suddenly went back to “under review”. So I emailed them again and they said that their system has some kind of weird “hiccup” that reverts your portal back to “under review” when you change your major. They assured me it will go back to “accepted” shortly. That was last Thursday…

We’re still waiting (application complete first week of November). No change in portal. Nothing in the mail. U of MD notification happens this week, and he got accepted to NC State engineering last week (OOS) (that was a week earlier than anticipated) … so at least now he knows he has somewhere to go.

This whole system seem really disorganized that’s just my opinion

Looking at the process from the outside, it certainly is hard to make sense of it. I imagine that there is some sort of rhyme & reason when viewed from the inside the admissions department.

There has to be an initial pile for the slam-dunk candidates: great grades & test scores, thoughtful essays and plenty of EC’s to show multiple dimensions. There’s probably also a pile for students who are well below the figures published in the Common Data Set. That leaves the massive pile in the middle that needs to be carefully managed. Too high of a yield puts a strain on the university resources (dorms, classrooms, etc.) Too many rejections could leave rooms and seats empty. Finding that sweet spot in between can’t be easy.

Two years ago, UD was my daughter’s last acceptance. This year, my son got his answer in January so that is a definite improvement. It’s still a long way to the May 1st commitment date so hang in there everyone!

agreed Fauster! UD was my D’s last two years ago so I’m feeling like my son will be getting an answer so quickly compared to her. Both submitted their applications Columbus Day weekend so this seems early but I’m eager to know!

Just got the decision emailed to him. Admitted to Honors College, Mechanical Engineering + $10k/yr… 3 for 3 so far. Yay…

OOS (MD)
740M/720V
3.95/4.0 (uw), 4.6/5 (w) GPA
15/323 class rank
No SAT Subject tests (bucked the system and still got into Honors  )
Calc AB (4), CS AB (4), Engl Lang & Comp (4), US Govt (3)

If you were already admitted to University of Delaware do you have to send mid year grades?

I don’t think so. Just year end transcript.

I was admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences, Biology Major, very excited!!
