@LkL5789 thank you for your reply about the Cornell letter.
@mamafid that is a very confusing letter. I would call admissions and ask them to clarify it.
Amazing how much you learn as you keep peeling back the layers to the onion. The games the schools play.
Like I mentioned, this is a good thing if one really wants to graduate from a certain college and has that opportunity to take a different path instead of an outright rejection.
@LkL5789 the only thing that shows up now in DD’s northeastern admissions account at this point is the transfer offer for 2018 – the screen that tracked and showed everything that she submitted previously is now gone. So, despite the confusing letter it’s clear that she’s no longer under consideration for admissions for 2017. Otherwise, I definitely would have called admissions for clarification.
FYI, here is a CC link from someone who was offered this NU guaranteed transfer option LAST YEAR (RD) so this may not be entirely new this year. The link suggests a possible connection to the offer and being from Boston schools. We live in a Boston suburb (and @MassDaD68 – the OP for this thread – appears to be from MA) so perhaps there is a Boston/MA connection …

“Rejected by Northeastern with a transfer guarantee for a future term. Is this something meaningful or just some bs that they tell every student they reject? I’m from Boston and know a few other kids that got this same decision so maybe its just something they tell kids from the city …”
The guaranteed sophomore transfer offer means your stats were too weak to be admitted as a freshman. If you prove yourself at another 4 year university with a 3.0 or higher then you can transfer to Northeastern. It is not limited to Boston residents and is not offered to all rejected applicants.
Good info @TomSrOfBoston. How were you able to find out that NU is making this offer to students outside of MA? And, do you happen to know if there is an increased likelihood of receiving the offer for legacy students or those with another connection at NU? I understand that NU no longer considers legacy in freshman admissions but was not sure if it might impact receiving a guaranteed transfer offer. Appreciate it!
