Denied Admission

Son was denied, not too surprised but 61,800 applications for 6158 spaces...WOW

Thank you for your interest in San Diego State University. After carefully reviewing your application for admission, we are unable to offer you admission for the fall 2010 semester. SDSU admission decisions are highly competitive; this year, we received 61,800 applications. The California state budget does not allow for any enrollment growth in 2010-2011. Therefore, we only have 6,158 new enrollee spaces available and these spaces have all been allocated.

Admitted freshmen had an average high school GPA of 3.78 and an average SAT score of 1148.

You may be assured that your application was fully considered. We regret that we are unable to accommodate you at this time, but wish you well in your future academic endeavors.

Everyone wanted to come to the party known as SDSU.
The Class of 2014 messed it up for all the others to follow by bumping up the gpa and SAT.
Now where will the party hardy go to college?

Sorry your son didn’t get in, but he’ll probably find a better fit for him at another college anyways.

I’m from san diego, and 40 of my classmates applied, and 30 got in. The 10 that didn’t were probably at the bottom of my class with grades close to 3.0 or below.SDSU was my backup and everyone I know always thought of the school as a joke so…

why you guys think SDSU is a joke? it’s a reputable school

As is the case with all “Cal States”, SDSU has different criteria for the people that live in San Diego and people that live outside of San Diego. It is reasonably easy to get in if you live in San Diego and reasonably hard to get in if you don’t. Definitely it is a great school.

“As is the case with all “Cal States”, SDSU has different criteria for the people that live in San Diego and people that live outside of San Diego”

No longer true at ALL cal states. SLO is an exception. SDSU may be too.

http://www.csusm.edu/budgetcentral/documents/csusmEnrollMgmt101.pdf

It says

“Admissions management tools—
CSU campuses must accommodate all qualified applicants from their designated local
service area who apply during the priority application period (October 1 through
November 30) and who meet all other requirements and deadlines
• Exempt from this CSU policy are fully impacted campuses (whose every academic program is impacted), which are not required to accommodate local service areas. Currently Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and San Diego State are the
only fully impacted campuses.”

and

“• Two campuses are fully‐impacted, in that ALL of their academic programs
have been declared impacted: San Diego State University, and Cal Poly San
Luis Obispo.
• Fully impacted universities may employ more rigorous admissions criteria to
all undergraduate applicants, regardless of their geographic origin (local area
or beyond).
• These two universities (CPSLO and SDSU) are allowed to use impaction criteria for both LSA and non‐LSA applicant groups because all of their
academic programs are fully impacted and students must be admitted both to the university and to a specific academic major.”

I just got in… two days ago, a month after everyone else haha. First-time freshman too…

Too bad, i’m going to UCD.

Although it is now harder for San Diego residents to get into SDSU than in the past, it is still easier for San Diego residents to get in than non-San Diego residents. This is from their website: First-Time Freshmen Admission Criteria
Fall 2010
Due to the severity of the California state budget, all first-time freshmen applicants will be admitted to the pre-major (including undeclared) in which they applied. There will be a limited number of enrollment slots in each pre-major. Applicants will be ranked by their Eligibility Index, which is a combination of GPA and SAT/ACT test scores. In addition, students must complete the pattern of college preparatory curriculum (“a-g” courses) by the end of spring 2010. All applicants are strongly encouraged to have alternate education plans.

SDSU service-area applicants will be assigned a credit to increase their eligibility so SDSU can maintain its traditional balance of out-of-area to in-area students. Students are in SDSU’s service area if they graduate from a high school in San Diego County located south of state route 56 and extending eastward AND Imperial County high schools.

First-time freshmen from outside SDSU’s service area are required to live in on-campus housing their first year.

SDSU rejected me…
but UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Santa Cruz all accepted me.

So, even though this is a little immature, screw you STDSU!
