Denver Int Airport to DU campus

Just wondering if there is transportation from the Airport to DU other than Rental Car, taxi (seems a lont ways away for a cab) etc. Is there light rail? Bus? Boat? Horse and buggy?
Just kidding of course. I assume it would be best to rent a car for the upcoming Pioneer Days.

A combination of bus and light rail is possible and cheap, but would take quite some time. My son has used Super Shuttle and it seems to cost a little less than $25 each way.

Thank you. We will either rent, or check into the Super Shuttle.

Renting is a pain at Denver airport and unless you want to drive around the surrounding area I’d go with Super Shuttle. We stayed downtown the night before we visited and took the light rail to the University stop in the morning. Very easy and only 20-25 minutes. We used Super Shuttle from DU to the airport when we left.

We plan on the Super Shuttle to a hotel near the Unversity. Then use either a cab or light rail to the school.
Whats the better choice for visiting the U and getting to the LR? (Residence Inn 670 S Colorado Boulevard) or (Fairfield Inn 1680 South Colorado Blvd) and which is nicer?

If you are only staying 1 night either hotel is probably fine. You can always check out tripadviser.com if you want reviews. I’ve stayed at the Marriott Courtyard which is also fine. One more thing on Super Shuttle, if there are more than 2 of you, it’s not cheaper than a cab. I’ll be curious how your visit goes. We’ve visited a few weeks ago. My daughter loves Denver, but also loves her other options. No idea how she’ll/we’ll make the decision but happy to have several options.

Marriott Courtyard on S. Colorado is the closest hotel to DU’s campus, driving-wise. You can’t take the light rail from the Courtyard, Residence Inn or Fairfield Inn to campus. If you don’t have a rental you’ll need to take a cab, or the hotel shuttle if they’ll take you to DU.
My son is a freshman at DU and is extremely happy.

You could also stay in any hotel downtown, get there by Supershuttle, and then go to DU by light rail. Very very easy to be in downtown without a car as there are free shuttles up and down the mall, which connect to all ligh rail lines.

And there is a Residence by Marriot (I think that’s what it is) at I-25 and Hampden which is in the light rail parking lot for that light rail station. You could get to DU in about 10 minutes.

Thanks. It will be just my wife and daughter this trip. It has come down to Elon University in NC and UD.
UD surprised us and caught us off guard with merit and financial packages that they offered us. Elon has come up a little short on the merit portion.
We get a Marriott friends and family rate, so as long as its a Marriott owned franchise, we do well with prices. Even JW Marriott had a nice price for us. Is either walk

Marriott has several downtown hotels including a Courtyard, Marriott and Residence Inn. (I think the JW is not downtown but in Cherry Creek.) From downtown, assuming your wife and daughter are comfortable jumping on public transportation, it will be easy to catch the light rail. We stayed downtown when we did the admitted students visit earlier this month. If you like to walk around and have dinner choices downtown is more fun. If you are just going to crash at the hotel (getting in late) stay at a Courtyard or Fairfield Inn on S. CO Blvd, very near campus and should be ann inexpensive cab ride or even within the hotel’s shuttle service.

It’s a great school, great city. With more than one of you, rent a car. DU is highly regarded in the area. Very underrated school do to being in Colorado and not the NE. We’ll be checking it out next year too.

She made reservations at the Fairfield. Thank you all. Lets hope my D loves the school. This is one of those applications that she put in sight unseen.

@aggriffin3, please let us know her impressions when she returns. Our S really liked it and they have offered him very nice merit. We live in Colorado and this will likely be much more affordable for us than a state university, unless the state school surprises him with him a departmental scholarship.

First things first. My wife rented a car for 14.99 on priceline, and actually got an upgrade to a small SUV, as they did not have the car when she arrived. What a deal. They stayed at the Fairfield Inn. They toured the city, went out to the Red Rocks and amphitheater area, loved it. She did the tour and was one of a few that were accepted before hand, so they separated the 5 that had been accepted and did a more thorough campus tour.
She loved it, and actually feels better about going to DU if she does not accept her first choice school of Elon U in NC. It will come down to the package, as DU stepped up to the plate and gave us what we wanted.

Thanks

aggriffin: I thought it was funny that you mentioned DU and Elon. My son is a freshman at DU while my daughter is a first-year law school student at Elon. We’re from New Jersey.

Update! My daughter just mentioned last night, that DU is where she wants to go. We were waiting for a FAFSA package to arrive this week from Elon, and although we still will, sounds like it better be really good, as she loved DU on her visit this weekend, and DU stepped up to the plate.
gunnerz, whats your opinion on both of those schools if you compared them. We have lots of family spread around NC even though we live in Michigan. We have no family in Colorado, but maybe thats a good thing for my D.

Thanks

DU is a nice, what I consider compact campus. You can walk from one end to the other in, say 15 minutes, maybe 20. Undergraduate enrollment is about 5,000. There’s enough pubs with food, restaurants, a Safeway grocery store, Walgreen’s pharmacy, etc., within walking distance of the campus. It’s a light rail trip to downtown and other suburbs. There’s plenty to do within Denver and traveling outside of the city/suburbs.
DU’s freshmen orientation is a week long, and there’s also a two-day parent orientation. Although we’re 1,800 miles away, my wife and I left orientation feeling our son was in good hands. DU staff are nice and helpful. They always answer questions. Now into his third quarter it’s been a good experience for him, and us parents. No regrets.
Elon Law School is in downtown Greensboro, NC, not on the undergrad campus in Elon, NC, so that’s where my daughter also is living. Denver and Elon are night/day. A large metropolitan area vs. a southern town. I’ve been on the Elon undergrad campus and it’s beautiful. But I don’t think there’s much within walking distance.
