DePaul or uiuc for accounting

Son was accepted into DePaul for fall 2016. He is in the DePaul University honors program as well as the Strobel accountancy honors program. Does anyone have experience with these programs? His other options include UIUC accounting which had a higher Ranking but he wouldn’t be in honors. Thank you!! Costs would be similar because were in state.

Hubby is a DePaul Grad (computer science) and a friend of ours graduated with his degree in accounting from DePaul. and has a very high level finance job (25 years later). Honestly, DePaul has a much better reputation in the city of Chicago than UIUC. DePaul has amazing internships which lead to jobs after graduation.

@d101parent My first reaction would be UIUC, but I admit I am unfamiliar with DePaul’s program. (Btw, congrats on the DePaul honors!) However, if it was my son, I would not make a decision without some research…get the facts concerning internships and job placement directly from the schools. Also, since you are in-state, I would attend UIUC’s Business Experience Day.

Good luck!

Something to consider with DePaul is the location. There would be more opportunities to intern at an accounting firm in Chicago than UC. Upperclassmen at DePaul tend to intern at firms while finishing up their degrees so that is definitely a plus.

@88jm19 uiuc business experience day was outstanding. Job placement is somewhere around 97%, and supposedly better than “any other school your child is considering.” They cited it is better than Michigan and Notre Dame. Not sure how true that is, but I have to admit the program was impressive. DePaul is off the table for now, but we are by no means settled on a decision. Thanks all for your input.

You are very welcome. I wish you well with your decision!
