Including the scholarships, I need to pay about same amount of money to both schools. My top major option is business related, so which one would be better for me? Not considering about Chicago's coldness vs charleston's moderate weather.....

Charleston is an amazing city…but so is Chicago, they are just very different.

I would imagine Chicago might have more internship opportunities with all of the businesses located there. Charleston is a pretty small city that won’t have as many big named firms.

I think you need to consider the living conditions and how much you like the school atmosphere first of all.

@goose7856
but I don’t really know what the school atmosphere is like at either of them…sigh…do you know anything about their undergrad business programs?

Can you not visit either of these schools before making a final decision?

I suggest DePaul. I think between the two, DePaul has more name recognition just because of its location and there are more big businesses based in and around Chicago.

@cbreeze
other than the name recognition, do you know about their busniss programs? and I heard depaul’s food is really nasty…

@goose7856
the chance is really low…i’m an international student at a super strict boarding christian high school in Jackson, KY…middle of no where and nobody is planning to either go to chicago and charleston before my graduation…

Don’t choose a school because of food. It’s all hearsay plus Chicago is a very cosmopolitan city and you can supplement your meals from all the small restaurants near the campus. I would say Chicago beats Charleston any day for accessibility to good and cheap food, not including many more options.

DePaul’s campuses are Urban (Lincoln Park) and Very Urban (office building in the Loop). You can find both on Google maps and see what it’s like. My D is very excited about being in an urban environment but it’s not for everyone (no football team.) The Lincoln Park campus does have a small quad and a terrific fitness center, so it’s not as if there is no “campus.”

On the tour, they said they have more internships (paid and unpaid) for business students than they have business students. Even if that was an exageration, I think there are more opportunities for real world work in Chicago than in Charleston.

Might want to consider the weather, too.

I don’t think I have ever seen this addressed before but why exactly is “Daughter” and “Son” written as “D” and “S” on here?

I see that everywhere on here. It’s a strange little trend.

It’s quicker.

Don’t know anything about CoC (except that Charleston is a lovely, WARM city) but I do have a D at DePaul’s college of commerce. Missypie gave an excellent summary of DePaul, and D’s experience has been spot-on: not your typical college experience (no football, not a lot of rah-rah school spirit) but pretty amazing IF you’re interested in an urban school and IF you can handle the city-life. Also, be sure you can handle snow - did you SEE what happened on Lakeshore Drive this winter??

DePaul prides itself on its alumni network and its relationships with area businesses. D was offerred three different internships for the summer of 2011 and willl be working for one of the Big 4 accounting firms. She’s not an anomaly; most of her friends - at least the ones with good GPAs - have similar stories.

Please - DON’T choose your school based on the food, especially in a place like Chicago where the options are endless.

Thank you for everybody’s reply!
@cbreeze
Haha…I admit it’s kind of cheesy to decide on food…but…do they have good seafood at chicago? I am a huge shrimp and crab fan!!!
@scout
Haha…I admit that the food was kind of a joke… I think I’m going to Depaul and can you tell me about the university center of chicago? I am going to school of commerce (undergrad) and do I have to stay at UCC? Can I choose Lincoln park just for room and boarding?

@missypie
I am really excited about the city life tooooo! I stayed at Jackson, KY for 2 years because of my boarding school…nothing here at all!!!

Last I saw, Chicago has a big lake nearby.

Last I saw, Charleston has a whole ocean nearby.

HAHA…

love your comment~!

Depaul…you can’t beat the location and there is plenty of internship opportunities.

I am choosing housing right now…do you think i should choose university center (near loop campus, which is the campus I will go) or Lincoln park campus housing? or it doenn’t matter?
