Last February I pledged Calpirg without knowing much about what they do, but now I've decided I don't want to give them $5/quarter. My question is how do I go about depledging from Calpirg? I looked online and some people said they called the number on their BAR account and left a message with their name and student ID number, so I am nervous that wouldn't work. Is there a better way to do this? Thanks for your help!

try hunting them down in real life?

they actually charge you $5/quarter?? what do they have people fill out in their forms? did you know about the charge beforehand?

Yeah, they charge $5/quarter, and I did know this beforehand. My problem came up recently when I decided I didn’t agree with many of the recent positions they were taking. Anyway, I have tried that and many other calprig e-mails several times and I received no response from any of them, and I’ve left messages requesting to depledge. I am home from school so I can not physically go to their office. Has anyone had success depledging by leaving a message?

dont pay mebe?

Its automatically billed to my UCLA BAR account. I have to pay unless they take me off.

wow what as*holes. your best bet is probably confronting them in person (do they charge you in the summer too?). theyre probably not so enthusiastic about entertaining unpledging requests indirectly

In the office at Kerckhoff you can fill out a form and drop it in the box to depledge. If you can’t be there, just call the number!

one of these days, i’m going to snap and punch a solicitor in the face.

I don’t think they told the truth. They said “We need you to sign this form so that the school may distribute $5 of your student fee from your account to Calpirg, and then the school will remove that amount from your charges”.

As a freshmen, it may be easy to believe what you’re told.

As a warning for incoming freshmen, avoid the black people with clipboards and suits. Annoying as hell.

***? The canvasser who signed me up didn’t lie or anything. I knew it was $5 a quarter.

annoying as hell is an understatement. do not even acknowledge their presence unless you want a harasser for 4 years
