In all the excitement we missed the $2900 deposit required. Anyone clarify what that is for and is it returned or defrayed, say after A-Day?

To my knowledge, on R-Day and throughout Cadet Basic Training, a new cadet is issued so much stuff that a cadet's salary is not enough to cover the cost. Therefore, the $2,900 deposit is there to help cover that cost. I do not think that the $2,900 deposit is returned because it is worded as a "non-refundable deposit."

Furthermore, a new cadet also takes out a pay advance of around $5,000 to cover all the associated costs of becoming a cadet at West Point.
