Hello. I badly need some quick help!

I am going to pay the deposit at College X today (as today is the deadline) but I might not attend there. I have also got accepted to a better school (College Y) and it might turn out next week that I get financial aid from Y as well; and in that case I would definitely want to go there.
This is a special situation, I contacted someone who knows the president of College Y, so it could actually happen that they agree to grant me some aid (although it is after every deadline).

My question is, whether you think I should mention to College X that I might get aid and go to somewhere else, or not...also, I am waitlisted at a third school. Should I tell this fact to College X?

I'm international, and I really have no clue how this thing goes with the deposits and this is something I cannot ask from College X...
I hope my question is clear enough. Thank you very much for your help.

Don’t have to tell them anything. Your situation happens all the time. Just accept and then later withdraw. Penalty is usually that you lose any deposits.

Thank you for your response, I’m happy to hear that:)

If you can reach the admissions officers, they may give you a short extension on when your deposit is due.

Not at all. You do not inform the college where you accept a place that you’re on waitlist(s) elsewhere. Should you be taken off the waitlist, you just notify them you won’t be attending after all and you forfeit the deposit.

I just have deposited, and didn’t tell them anything, lol:D…
Thank you for your help;)

By the way, do you think it is at all possible to enroll if you pay your deposit few days after the deadline?(As that would be my case with College Y)

It depends on the school’s situation. If a school has more students than they want, they will return the deposit for any applicant who mails or pays a deposit after the deadline.
