<p>Hey all- how would a gold award in the writing competition look on an app to HYPS? I just found out that the deadline for submissions is Jan 10 and so I need to decide if its worth working my butt off to finish one of my works and send it in. Lemme know if anyone has been successful at this, how it helps on an app, how pretigious it is, and how good of a writer you have to be to win one of the awards. Thanks a bunch!</p>

<p>I sent in four or five of my best poems from over the years in my Junior year. I must have done something right because I won a regional gold key award - although honestly, I wouldn't call my work genius. I put my awards down under "honors" on my Swarthmore ED app and sent in the poems that I was recognized for as a supplement. I got in - so in short, I don't think putting the award down hurts. Good luck! </p>
