Desperately need help finding a nursing school

I was wondering if anyone had any information or suggestions of nursing schools? I am a sophomore and need to transfer from university at buffalo because they closed their nursing upper division for new applicants this year. It was done very last minute and unexpectedly and now I'm scrambling trying to find programs I am eligible to apply for. I'm looking for a school with a nursing program somewhere on the east coast preferably in NY or down south. I would love any information especially if anyone knows any nursing programs with direct admission for transfers. I don’t have a public/private preference and my gpa is a 3.5 (I know its not great esp for nursing). Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

In New Jersey there’s Rutgers Seton Hall, TCNJ. My advice? Try to go in state wherever your parents live. Nursing schools are pretty equal across the board, they all teach to the nursing boards. No need to incur outrageous private school costs. I’m a nurse practitioner, and when we hire we are not that interested in where the student graduated from, just that they passed their Boards and maybe have some type of experience.

One suggestion down south would be Queens University of Charlotte. It is reasonably priced for a private school, in a great location, good weather, and well respected nursing program. There are plenty of flights between NY and Charlotte.

Also, you might want to check out Stevenson University (formerly Villa Julie College) in MD. I remember that they were known for a good nursing program and I have not checked tuition, but I believe they are not too highly priced.

dkitty, I respectfully disagree that nursing schools are the same across the board. They can vary widely in philosophy and quality. That goes for NP programs also. Please, OP, go to a school where thinking and questioning are valued, and where you will be prepared for graduate school and/or research if eventually you want to pursue this! Sorry that I do not know which schools have a “2 and 2” BSN program anymore, where it would be easiest to transfer. But, your school should be offering you some advice and help if they have suddenly closed the program. Good luck!

Levirm - I have worked with new grads from state schools (ie; Rutgers) and high priced private schools (ie; Villanova, Georgetown). They all come with the same core of knowledge. My point was that even nursing school grads are having a hard time finding jobs and it is not necessary to graduate with astronomical debt as the the Nursing Boards level the playing field.

Northeastern, Pace, Stony Brook, Adelphi, Delaware and Wagner.

Krissy…

Will you have to borrow to pay for this, or will your parents pay? If so, what is your budget?

I second Queens in Charlotte (of which I am an alum)

Check the nursing schools thread and good luck!

The University of Alabama has a nursing program, and it’s not impacted (closed) because it’s expanding (new building almost complete). The new building is conveniently located across from the hospital.

Bama doesn’t just have a “nursing department,” it has a College of Nursing. [Capstone College of Nursing - The University of Alabama](http://nursing.ua.edu/)

Here’s the pics of the new Capstone College of Nursing building (located right across the street from the hospital [Photos from the Building Site - Capstone College of Nursing - The University of Alabama](http://nursing.ua.edu/photos/new_building/index.htm)

The campus is gorgeous <a href=“Page Not Found | The University of Alabama”>Page Not Found | The University of Alabama; , there is a nursing dorm if desired, but also honors housing. You would qualify for honors.
