Will detentions count against you in the college admission process? I am asking this because yesterday I received a detention for being late to class for the first time. Thanks a lot for your help.

Is this a serious question? Are you asking if being late to class and getting detention will have an impact on the college admission process? Just relax.

Detentions don't cause a problem - unless you have lots and lots - but suspensions will - you would have to explain - just relax - no problem for you tho.

Most detentions won't even show up on your transcript...only the more serious ones. I doubt that a "lateness" detention counts as serious.

just dont have that teacher write a rec...

if it helps, i got detention on the last day of school (the VERY last too!) of senior year from my assitant principal for helping in a senior prank =P we basically handed out 600 paper airplanes to seniors and had some kid dump a box of 2006 (it was somewhere around 2000, so we just said there were 2006 for our grad year) bouncy balls down the stairwell...soo at 9:00am, on the last day of senior year, there were 2000 bouncy balls and 600 paper airplanes flying in our main intersection and it was great =) the bouncy balls became contraband and if you were caught with one it was taken and administrators were going nuts if you had a piece of paper in your hand...in short, NOTHING got done that day after 9am for anyone =P all of the teachers thought it was funny (the previous year prank involved setting our football field on fire, soo) and the principal's secretary told us she thought it was great while we were waiting for him
the best part? the four of us that organized this were sitting in AP Physics after the AP test, bored, and decided to make airplanes, and then the idea of bouncy balls came up, and then the senior prank...we're all 3.5+ students, two at VT-Engineering, and the other two are at UVA

so, no, dont sweat it =P

This makes me feel better. Thanks to all who replied. =)
