I'm interested in Economics and have self-studied for the AP Microeconomics and Macroeconomics exams this year as a sophomore. Does anyone else have any suggestions on how else I can develop this interest and prove it to colleges (dream: princeton)?

I’m no help in posing yourself for Princeton, but in general …

Statistics – A firm grip of Stat will give you more of a flavor of college Econ.

Also – I’m a fan of Khan Academy videos – some interesting videos of Venture Capital & Finance that can be used as a springboard to find other interesting items.

Join/Start FBLA/DECA. Start investing in stocks, etc.

^ FBLA is a good idea, but no one at my school would be interested in it if I started it. Are they any more individual things that I could do? Thanks for your help! And if will look into investing in stocks…but finance and business do not interest me as much as economic policies/theories and such.

Oh and @ longhaul…thanks! Considering self-studying AP stats next year so that’ll be good

I don’t really understand what FBLA/DECA is…I looked at their website. Is it a school team sort of thing or what?

Consider the Economics for Leaders summer program. Here is the link:

[Economics for Leaders Program Foundation for Teaching Economics](Economics for Leaders - Foundation For Teaching Economics)

This would work if you will be a high school junior next year since they only accept rising seniors. But it would definitely help you show interest.

I would highly recommend the above mentioned program … you have to apply early the spring of your junior year.

Somehow get yourself on iTunes University and then look for economics.

Here is the link I used. I had to go into one of the subjects and then searched for economics. I found tons of free lectures from MIT, Stanford, etc.

[Apple - iTunes U - A wealth of knowledge from top institutions.](http://www.apple.com/education/itunes-u/whats-on.html)

I have to repeat what those above me have said. EFL is absolutely amazing.
Also, look at MIT OCW (Open Courseware) and Yale OYC for free course materials. I’m currently halfway through the video lectures for Yale’s Econ 159 (a game theory course), and the lectures are recorded and produced very well.

To the OP: don’t be put off by the application. It seems to be all about the essay, so start early…don’t wait until the last minute.

Thank you everyone for the help!! I will def look into everything you guys suggested…I only wish ppl at my school would be more interested in FBLA. Oh and @ givings…I def will not be put off by the application, I filled out approx a million of those things this year :). Thanks!

^lol, same position. Our school has literally no business teachers. Closest class we have is Personal Finance…
