Devry vs UOP vs AIU vs CTU vs others?

So I have a list of schools I’m looking at

Devry Univ or Devry Institute of Technology
Univ of Phoenix
American InterContinental Univ
Colorado Tech Univ

and a few others schools that you can attend oncampus but they offer full degrees online as well like I have a few FLorida schools since I might move there…

Florida International Univ,
Florida State Univ,
Florida Atlantic Univ,
Northeastern Univ Online
Marist College
Univ of Mass
Penn State

This is my list of schools I’ve narrowed down still waiting to hear from a few more to see if they offer online programs. Basically my inteded major is Computer Information Systems or IT … and shoot in some Finance as well.

Would love to hear everyone’s advice and opinions.

I am new here and here to learn.

Can anyone here help me make a good decision ?
I am going to school for IT , I am 24yrs old working adult and online seems to be what I need.

Which schools would you folks recommend ?

Devry University
Berkeley College
American InterContinental University
Colorado Technical University
Fort Hays State University
University of West Florida
Florida Institute of Technology aka Florida Tech

UWF or for Fort Hays. The others are way overpriced or won’t look very good on a resume.

May I add American Military University & Western Governos University?

Thanks remlingerj, but it seems the reasons why some are more expensive than others its because the way things are taught … I see that the affordable ones are open book and that sort, while the others are more interactive online learning

That’s not the reason. Schools like Devry and UoP are “for-profit” schools and cater to adult students. Fort Hays and UWF are public state universities and are subsidized by the government thus the tuition rate is much more reasonable.

Yes you’re right, but also I was seeing that for example Colorado Technical University, Florida Tech, AIU to mention a few according to the website, their teaching method has teachers giving lectures and teaching the class like if you were in a real classroom.

It seems like CTU/AIU have a different, more advance platform when it comes to this than others. Also I think its why they are a bit more pricey as well

Yep. That would be the long and short of it right there.

I would not want to really see anyone go to a for profit school which costs an arm and a leg in order to major in IT only to have most Human Resources folks disregard your resume. I have seen it happen before and it is really sad if anything.

Florida has its act together and depending on which school over in Florida you pick and whatnot, you may be able to pay in state tuition.

Please remember that IT is really good work. But, you would want to pick a proper school which also covers Cloud Computing because Cloud Computing is to take over IT work in the next couple of years. You also would want to make sure that you can obtain your Microsoft Certifications and all as well. Where I live, one can do a very fair amount of IT and proper Microsoft Certifications though CEU’s at the local community college for next to nothing. Florida has a similar set up of sorts over at Miami Dade College for sure.

So, like, RobNyc I would stick to proper schools which are also including Cloud Computing in their course of IT studies as well as Microsoft Certifications. I am trying to help you out here, not shatter your dream or something, man

Thanks so much so I’ve ditched out those expensive arm & leg schools.
I was very close in doing the application fee this morning to Florida Tech (Florida Institute of Technology) since its a top ranked school. But the expensiveness of the school kept me thinking over and over.

I think I decided 90% for Western Governers University. Have you taken a look at them?
After WGU, i would say UWF, Fort Hays State University since they’re affordable as well. But Fort Hays runs on the traditional tri-semester, not sure about UWF.

Depending on which school over in Florida you pick, you might qualify for an out of state tuition waiver depending on your major. This is something you need to research yourself because I literally do not remember which schools do it and for what majors and all of that. I am in the process of moving and am kinda busy, sorry.

Western Governors is something which you would have to research and think long and hard about.

Ultimately, you want to pick a good old fashioned school which has a solid academic base behind it. Like Fort Hayes and all.

Know what I am saying?

Some of the more intricate parts of your major (like cloud computing evolving like the dickens) are things you would need to learn from someone in IT now. Or maybe a proper IT group affiliated with Microsoft or something.

Good luck to you. You seem to be on the right track.

Thanks mildred, good luck on your moving.
I want to move within the next year or so down to Florida most likely.

Western Governos (WGU)
Fort Hays
Univ of West Florida

Are the possible candidates now. I was looking at their programs and out of all, I like WGU’s program more they offer exactly what I was looking for.

“Gain the superior IT skills, knowledge, and certifications the industry demands with an online IT degree from WGU. Our accredited, competency-based bachelor’s degree programs incorporate up to nine respected industry certifications without adding classes or costs. WGU’s IT degree programs deliver the credentials you need to open the doors you want opened.”

Unlike AIU, CTU, Devry, Penn Foster, Florida Tech … WGU called me and asked me when was a good time for to schedule an appointment for my assigned mentor to call me & talk to me about the program and anything else. The other schools were rushing me to sign up and not really convincing at all it sounded like they were reading a script.

Application fee paid, now about to take my assessment test for WGU =)
