dicipline trouble

hello my friend got in dicipline trouble at her school last year and she dropped out of the school going to a pretty good public school in NY. (the school that she dropped out from is a really prestiege private high school) she did not get kicked out, but she decided to withdraw by herself.
She got cought for cheating. She is going on leave for a year and is going to repeat a grade and lets assume that she does well in her new high school can she still get in good colleges??????
do colleges hold that against you if you explain yourself in the application?

p.s. how long are SATs valid for?

Yes, colleges hold cheating against students even if they explain themselves.

The more select the college is, the more picky they tend to be about things like this. They have plenty of high stat, strong EC students to choose from who don't have ethical or legal violations on their records. In addition, lower ranked colleges that pride themselves on their honor codes also are likely to look askance at a student who was caught cheating.

Your friend would be wise to consider as "match" schools colleges that based on her stats, she'd normally consider "safeties" and to construct the rest of her application list accordingly.

So, is she taking a year off, then taking a year over, so she will be how old when she graduates? During that year off, what is she doing, working, service work, what, can she take some Community college classes to keep her brain and study habits up to spead?

I am confused....

I, too, don't understand why she's taking a year off after withdrawing from h.s. after cheating. Does she also have something like a substance abuse problem that she needs to address through extensive treatment? If not, it's hard for me to understand why she didn't transfer to a new h.s.

I also notice the below posts by you, which indicate that you are your friend. IMO it would be best if you either turned your behavior around at your current, excellent prep school or transferred to a new school and toed the line. I can't see any advantage in withdrawing and taking a year off.

"Ley lets say that a person leaves a competitive high school(like andover, exeter, groton.....etc) and go to a really good public school. How do colleges count the GPA? cuz the system is different. The GPA would be brought down by the time where they the kid spend at their old school. And does it look bad to leave a competitive high school??"

"do you think that is going to hurt me applying to colleges if i levae such a competitive high school and go to a good public high school ?"

wat if she not take a year off and continue on school right now at a local high school? (btw this is actually my friend, I was too lazy to explain in third person so I just used me as an example.)
is she ****ed for school anyways?
that is assuming that she manages to get good grades and do well.

btw she has no substance abusing problems. ( she got really good grades at her high school right now)
She wanted to take a year off because everything is coming so fast that she just want sometime off, but if that is going to hurt her then i think she will just continue school at a new high school.
