It came in today for me.

Same, last night

I got it yesterday too. I love it!

Yeah lol. Check the interest on that thing. Its going to be a huge pain to pay that back.

Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using CC App

^No loans = no interest.

For anyone that is willing to share…did they only award federal and state grants or just federal? Both can change so I’m trying to figure out how they are going about it. The Pell Grant will more than likely not be $5,500/yr again…so I’m interested in see how they also award that. Probably will get one in the next day or two but thought I would ask just in case someone is also in the very low income bracket…lol.

From what I read…UT wont even be sending awards out until its all final in the state and congress. Probably no correct way to go about it this year. Everyone is just playing by ear.

^I was only awarded federal grants. The state just approved its budget cuts yesterday, so it could be a while before any grants are available from them, if any at all. For me the Pell grant was listed as $5550 as my EFC is 0, but that’s obviously not set in stone.

As for UT, they have already released their federal grants and loans online, but not state grants. So far I’m liking A&M much better.

So will any state grants be available to students? I was pleased with my award summary but now I feel shafted :p

Looks more and more that it will be $4750 this year. Not sure it was a good idea on A&M part to tell people it would be $5500. Better to underestimate than over, IMO.

What are the current rates for the unsubsidized loans?

I got my Financial Aid today.

EFC: 0 First Generation and a Transfer student

Federal Pell Grant : Total $5,500
TX Public Education Grant : Total $2,000
Federal Direct Subsidized Loan : Total $4,500
Federal Perkins Loan : Total $2,500
Federal Direct Unsub: $2,000

Total, $16,550 this year. (Fall 2011- Spring 2012)

@Esteef - How do you see those numbers? Or dos it only come out when you are already confirmed going to tamu? or admitted?

I got a letter through the mail with the information.

@Esteef - Must you apply for anything? Or do the Fafsa first?

I applied to TAMU, applied for FASFA, and then got accepted.

^police, if you don’t do the FAFSA, then you won’t get financial aid. You need to reveal your family’s financial situation, via the FAFSA, to get awarded need-based aid like Esteef’s.

What about for transfers, I was accepted on the 22nd and still I haven’t seen any change on my Financial Aid Portal?

^Did you submit the FAFSA?

yeah, I think in mid-Feb…

^Hmmm. And is Texas A&M listed on your Student Aid Report (SAR)? (Check the report that you got after you filed your FAFSA.)

Maybe they do financial aid for transfers later? I really don’t know. Or maybe a lot of kids, transfers and freshmen, don’t have theirs now. Don’t know.

Did you sign into Howdy, click the My Finances tab, and enter the Financial Aid portal? Once there, you should see “Fall 2011, Spring 2012, and Summer 2012.” When my son clicks on that line, a new window opens. I don’t know if it always was this way, or if it just became this way after he accepted his scholarships, but the new window now shows “Action Required” steps and lists “Completed Requirements.” To see his financial aid awards, he has to click on “Awards” in the gray line towards the top of the box.

Does any of that work for you?

If not, you may want to call Financial Aid and ask when you can expect your financial aid package. (979) 845-3236 between the hours of 8;00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
