Did anyone not analyze their quote?

The directions said use it as a "starting point" for # 4. I don't know how to interpret that. My quote is kind of just pasted onto the top of my essay. It fits with the essay, but I didn't write anything specifically ABOUT the quote. Anyone else do the same? Is this wrong?

I did that. I don’t think you really need to analyze it, as long as it ties in with your essays overall message.

no, analyzation is not need
just connect it to the message of your essay

I just took one of my other college essays and slapped a quote at the top.

Analyzing or not is fine, as long as its relevant, and the essay is good :)

Thanks everyone. Glad to know I did it right. Happy New Year!

When I applied successfully a few years ago, I analyzed the crap out of the quote. And so did all the students I met at the Admit Weekend (yes, one of the major topics of conversation was college essays). I’m pretty sure I never met a single accepted student who didn’t follow the directions and didn’t analyze the quote…

@newest newb

I don’t think that’s what the direction said.

^^the point of the essay is not to analyze.
you did it right, Happy new year to you as well

I spent a sentence or two in the closer just wrapping up my anecdote/experience with the quote. That’s how I read the directions; that we were -supposed- to include something about what the quote meant to us and how it fit in with the rest of the essay.

Am I the only one who use prompt #1? xD

I think they order the choices based on how many kids do it, with the “choose your own” last for obvious reasons, so many people probably did prompt 1 :p.

It’s really just how you interpreted their question, and thats what they want to see. How we deal with it shows a bit about us too, all the more information for them to use.

I just made sure the quote related to the general content of my essay. Other than that I didn’t refer to it at all. O.o

I did prompt #1!

Anyone do the Wilson one???

Quote:
Am I the only one who use prompt #1? xD

Harvard/Yale essay + random quote = Princeton essay lol.

@NewAccount

Exactly.

^Same here. lol

@quomodo.

Yes, I used that quote too although like most people on this thread, l didn’t specifically analyze it; I just connected it to one of my experiences. I mean, the quote is relatively straightforward and there is not much to really analyze.
