how do tier 1 colleges interpret this as (in terms of admissions)?
i am worried that i will have to spend 15$ hiding the chem score per school from many colleges that i will apply to…
the other ones, hist and lang, aren’t too good as well. is there any way to make up…obviously there is no chance for retake (to impact admissions)

Depends on the grade you got in the AP classes. If you got an A in your AP CHEM class and you get a 3 on the test, it shows your class isnt really that hard. Your history language scores are fine. Calc BC is great that you got a five. It also depends on what your interested in. If you interested in Math then good, if Chem - not good, get the idea? After all some subjects just are not your cup of tea. More importantly once again is the grade you got in the classes. It really does not matter AS much (AP) as your GPA. AP classes scores are used to get you into higher up classes in college. Colleges are more concerned with your AP CLASS grade because it reflects your ability to handle harder classes. AP Scores are just used to reflect just how hard your AP class was. one 3 on your chem AP will not kill you. If you can afford it, you have the choice of hiding it, (it used to be that the colleges can see the FACt that you hid a score, but im not sure what it is now). But yeah, one low score wont hurt you horribly.

one 3 is not bad enough to damage your chances of admissions. fours are standard and fives will only help slightly...AP tests aren't as big of a deal in admissions as some people think, although I think they should be a huge factor.

Oh, definitely. Your AP scores often say more about how the teacher taught you the curriculum than they do about how competent you are in a given subject. I took a rather... special... AP Comp Sci class with a rather... um, mellow... teacher and the highest AP grade in the class was a 3.

("Heap!? What's a heap!?!")

One guy left the test at the break in the middle. I forgot where everyone else ended up going to college, but I know that 4 out of the 13 or 14 of us ended up at Rice, including the guy who just walked out. Don't stress too much about AP scores. Unless you completely bomb them all, they can pretty much only help you out. There's certainly no need to worry about a 3.

forgot to mention that i did not take a Chem AP class...
i took Chem Honors this past school year.
edit: however past experience has shown that ppl from this honors class generally do well for the ap

I agree with stambliark. The most important academic factors are difficulty of curriculum, gpa/rank/, and then standardized tests. The most important standardized tests are the SAT I and then the SAT II's. Somewhere after that are the AP exam scores. I know of no college that requires you to submit the AP scores. I would say that your options are to not submit any, hide the 3 and submit the others, or submit all of them and explain that you got a 3 in chem without taking the class.

They should notice that there is a 3 in chem on the AP scores without an AP Chem class on your transcript, but I wouldn't trust them to be that observant. They might just see the 3.

In any case, AP exams are not that important in the big picture. After all of the academic factors, you still have the EC's, essays, and recommendations. Not to mention, special factors like URM, legacy, and athletes.

At any rate, they are good scores. I don't want to know it if somebody was turned down because they got a 4 instead of a 5 on an AP test.

It's not the end of the world. My friend got a 3 on an AP class she did take, and got into MIT, Stanford, and Princeton. Your GPA/SAT/ECs are more important.

Don't worry, work hard for the rest of your high school career and take life easy...wait...that was contradictory
But anyways, like bananainpyjamas said, your GPA/SAT/ECs are probably the most important.

I personally believe that it won't hurt you very much, altf4, but I'm not an expert on this or anything.

Also, is it possible to hide scores? I KNOW...that I did not pass my AP Physics test. I would be happy to even get a 2, but I know even that is highly unlikely. (I haven't received the score yet.) Is there any way of preventing the colleges from seeing this?

omg, everyone in CC is so pessimistic.
Dudes, calm down. my friend got into yale with 2 in biology, 3 in chemistry and english, and 4 in history. 3,4,5 (esp. 4 AND 5) are all impressive scores. Just remember other parts of your app can carry much more weight if you've got something special (by that, i don't mean outrageously special..)

If you are only going into junior year, you can completely cancel the AP score. However, a complete cancel only works if you inform them a year in advance. If you are going to be a senior in the Fall, then you have to pay the $15 per school fee. The info is at www.collegeboard.com.

Hey dufus3709, how do you explain a bad grade? Write them a note on the application itself? I mean, they don't have time to look through the application that much, so the best way to let them see it would be a post-it on the application itself probably. People don't ACTUALLY mention in their essays why a score was bad, right? And I can't imagine someone saying why their AP grade is what it is at their interview?

is a 3 really that bad? :\ When i got my score i didn't think it was great but I didn't think it was that bad, now it sounds like a death sentence :)
