Did I apply for housing too late?

I just applied for housing today (I was accepted in December), because I am unsure if I will go to UT and will still be unsure until I get my regular decisions in April. So, will I be able to get housing? Do I still have a good chance of getting my first choice?

What were your preferences (in order)? Since you submitted the housing deposit in early January, you will more than likely get a housing contract and a space to live. However, some of the more popular options, like San Jacinto and Duren, you may not have a chance at since people who submit their application in September and October generally get those. Furthermore, UT houses the athletes in San Jac, so spots are limited.

However, if your roommate submitted their housing deposit early last semester, then you have a chance at San Jac or Duren or some of the smaller communities.

I had friends submit their housing deposit in January/February, and they got into honors housing and Moore-Hill. I had one friend who submitted his housing deposit in late April and he got Jester.

So really, it depends on your preferences. You should be safe for Jester East or West, honors (if you are looking into that), and really any of the dorms besides San Jac and Duren (and maybe Whitis)!

Also keep in mind that the rates for Duren and San Jacinto are higher than the ones for the other dorms!

Thanks for your help. I honestly have no clue about housing at UT. I’m from New Jersey and have never visited before. What are the advantages of the more competitive housing options? Is honors housing limited to honors students?

I would say you’re fairly safe. I know a lot of people put off their housing because they still had other colleges in mind. I just signed a lease for private housing yesterday. I’m not 100% sure about on campus housing, but I’d say you’re right on time for applying to live on campus.
