so WOT.. do you think you r leaning to UCLA because of the security of them getting back to you, so actually the department and school is calling you

I'm not leaning anywhere. That's the issue, I was more certain before... now If I get accepted I'll be 50-50. I always felt that I wouldn't get into UCLA for Comms bc it's so competitive but turns out Comms at SC is competitive too.

but you're probably right.

man.. i hope $fin aid$ is good at both.

Either way I'll be happy DJS3CA, I'm not complaining about which one I may have to pick. I'm worried about being admitted right now.

sad...i didnt get a call. I got asked to apply for the regents scholarship though. do you think that's why i didnt get asked for this one? hmm...i hope not. Either way im greatful they at least asked me for the regents scholarship...

post script: why is it like everytime i post something i start a new page? what's the deal with that? whatevs

I got the call from UCLA and received Regents invitation.

psh well fine then. congrats to all of you who received this infamous phone call.

just wondering, is this what you guys were asked to apply for?

Scholarships - Apply for Scholarships

if this is it apparently anyone can apply as long as you have a 3.75 gpa or above.

wow crazy requirements though! 3 essays and 2 teacher recomendations? plus you have to do like 30 hours of work for the alumni to get your second half of the scholarship? wow you guys!

the regents was only a 300 word essay and 1 teacher recomendation. more props to ya!

TipTopT - Yes, that is the one that we are asked to apply for, and the requirements are ridiculous.

Community College Transfer Scholarships (CCTS) are awarded through an application screening and interview process. Not everyone above a 3.75 can apply. I would call if I were you to see if you are eligible for it though.

TipTopT- Like I mentioned before, just the Priority Registration that comes with it is worth applying for. =)

changusmc, application screening and the interviews are for awarding the scholarship, but one is still eligible and can apply if:

"Eligible students must have a minimum 3.75 GPA and have completed the equivalent of 90 UC-transferable quarter units at the time of applying, at least half of which were completed at California community colleges."

Do you mean you will be attending UCLA?

Yeah I'm confused..

explain why it is terrible

I'm confused as to why you would reapply with no intention of attending. Even if it were a backup school. I didn't apply to any backups simply because I was not interested in attending anything other than USC or UCLA at this moment. I'm really invested in my choices and have weighed the pro's and cons of attending each. Otherwise, I'd feel like I have taken someone else's dream school spot.

I feel for the borderline people, I guess. Mainly because I want everything to work out for me... I do hope you get into your #1 though. :)

Did you end up going to Berkeley last year and hating it? I can't remember if it was you or someone else. What's your top choice this time around? I've read quite a few horror stories about Cal and UCLA and quite frankly, some of their points are very valid concerns.

donjuan --- the thing is, i hear the same bad things about Cal. That the kids are psychotic, the campus is hideous, and the entire scene is incredibly boring and spirit crushing.

I read those posts and I think those people are waaaay to angry for me to take any of their "comments" seriously. Thanks for bringing those to my attention.

However, despite all of my contemplation, i do not think that the hyper-competitive (not that UCLA isn't, but I always hear that it is less so) academic environment at UCB will ultimately end up killing my soul.

Again, thanks for those threads. I never knew so many people hated UCLA, lol. I also think many of them are upset due to the financial situation... I find this in poor light. Given that I am not in their situation (I am very lucky, Thanks to my Parents), I don't think a school should be damned because of their lack of financial sensitivity. Does that mean that big private schools should be damned as well? They're still good. U of Michigan is a really expensive, a public school, yet still considered to be a top school.

I dunno. I'm sure I'll get yelled at for this. I, in no way, mean to come off as callous or pigheaded. I just wish if people disliked something, they wouldn't bash it shamelessly and be rational about it.

yah UCLA seems very bad...... after hearing it from donjuan78... it's my second choice anyways

lol, I figured much that all of those things will happen. I knew that I would be in big classes (which I would like, gives me anonymity) and I know that friends will be hard to make. That's why I plan to live on campus, just for one year.

The fact that orientation is a mess is a new thing, yet I managed to make it out of a CCC without anyone's help... so, despite it being big, new and different, I'm sure with some research and practice, I can figure out the classes I need to take (I sort of did it for UCLA).

My only concerns is whether or not the academic environment will be frightening and overbearing. I just can't deal with crazy students that scream, cry and will screw you over, if they can. This stuff happens at UCSD... I can only imagine for UCB or UCLA.

I still like it. I know that UCLA has 15k+ more students than my other choice but it's a reputable school with a good & selective Communication Studies program. I'm sticking to it. lol.
