Can students pick/change majors more than once until they get to 64 credits? or is a change of major (within CAS) allowed only once?
Hello, @njparentf23! The requirements for CAS core are tailored towards four pillars/five subjects. Often the expository writing component is 1 class (4 credits. Foundations of scientfic inquiry is 2 classes, foireign language (4 classes), and foundations of contemporary is 4 classes.
Although it is important to note that this will differ from student to student.
Greetings, @Steminatoree! Nope! It is not necessary. What I can say is brush up on your Calculus. Stern prefers (but does not require) students who have taken Calculus. The higher-level calculus you have taken, the more competitive your application becomes.
@njparentf23, roomates can be selected but admitted students have the option to be assigned at random if they so choose to
@njparentf23, it is very much possible for students to pick/change majors more than once
Hi @Siddd, great question! Changing majors is only allowed once a student’s first term begins and not before.
Thank you, Ivan and Khalifa!! We will be there at the square tomorrow and at the admitted student’s event next weekend.
@MusicMjr, scholarships, Yes. We meet 100% of demonstrated student financial need for ALL incoming first-year students (including international students). Just fill out the FAFSA and CSS profile (Non-US citizens or permanent residents, just the CSS Profile) and you will be set.
As for double-majoring, it is possible, but the second major must be within the College of Arts and Sciences. Certain schools allow for the second major to be within the school, but the academic advisor can walk you through that step if admitted.
Please respond
Will NYU’s optional essay question change for those applying for 2024?
@njparentf23, there is the Pre-med major and Pre-med track. Both have excellent Advisor options and prepare you for medical school not just at NYU, but at other colleges as well. Students do have options for research and other opportunities via professors and the Wasserman Center for Career Development as well. The Pre-Med Club also helps with MCAT assistance as well.
Can you help me understand how students go about selecting housing preferences for Tisch School of the Arts? My understanding is that students won’t know their studio placement for another month or so, but for housing purposes, that means that they can’t assess which dorm(s) is closest to their studio. How do those students go about deciding which dorm to live in? Thanks in advance for your response.
@Penelope22, it has not been announced as of yet. Stay tuned!
Will Tandon be increasing the number of students it admits due to the 1 billion dollar donation?
@Penelope22, this year, it hovered around 8%.
The number of students admitted will generally stay the same to keep the class sizes small.
Good Afternoon, @ListenandLearn, housing placements are based on availability. Essentially housing is guaranteed but students are able to rank their preferences and choices. The vast majority of NYU residence halls are within a 10-15 min walk from campus. Moreover, Tisch students will also have classes that might be required in a location other than their studio.
Hope that was helpful!
Is the 8% for Tandon?
For Gallatin - do you have to propose your area of study on the common app?
Thanks for clarifying the Global studies V the liberal studies question.
Can you also explain the difference between CAS and LS? Do you automatically enter CAS after 2 years of liberal studies? I’ve seen it suggested on there that students may be placed into liberal studies because NYU feels like they need more time to…. mature academically before announcing a major
