hello
I am currently a high school student interested in applying for the 8/7/6 yr medical program. I was just wondering if it really matter what school you go to as long as you get into these programs. You all come out to be doctors? so what is the difference. Is it easier to get into the medical field you want coming out from a more prestigious school?
thanks

More prestigious schools allow for better residencies, but going to ANY medical school is a great achievement. 50% of all medical school applicants don't get in anywhere, and many more are "weeded out" from tough science classes before they even try to apply. I highly recommend a combined program if you are certain of your aspirations to become a doctor.

but does it matter where you go for residencies?

It has been said that the only time you "need" to go to a prestigious medical school is if you are interested in pursuing academic medicine. For residencies, it's mostly based on your abilities/test scores (USMLE) although for the very competitive residencies (dermatology, for example) some people have said that top medical schools may give you a better chance, because of the connections.
