Different Routes to Cockrell for Petroleum Engineering

I got CAP'd last week by UT. :( When I applied back in December, I listed my first choice as geology in Jackson School but recently have made the choice to pursue Petroleum Engineering. My ultimate goal is to get into Cockrell for Petroleum Engineering but I am not so sure of what to do. I have applied to KU, Texas Tech, New Mexico Tech and University of Houston and have been accepted into all of their Petroleum Engineering programs. I have also applied to Texas A&M and Colorado School of Mines but have not heard back yet. Am I better off going into a school I have been accepted and accept the stability that I am in the major I really want? Or should I go to UTSA and apply as a transfer to Cockrell and Texas A&M (if I don't get in). If I went to any of the other schools I listed , I would also apply to transfer to Cockrell as well after freshman year. I am leaning to just going to UTSA and attempt to transfer into all the schools listed. This way if I get into UT Austin, I would have already met some people doing CAP (I assume there will be many people doing cap at utsa) and they will be at UT Austin the next year with me. Whereas if I attend any of the other schools, I will probably meet some good friends that will not be transferring into UT in the fall, thus leaving me with nobody I know at the beginning of my sophomore year at UT Austin. The ultimate choice is mine and I pretty much know what I'm leaning to, but I just wanted to see peoples input on this forum. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

If you got into A&M i would go there for PetrE. They are extremely good in that field as well. So is Mines.

hey can i know wat is the minimum requirement to get into texas a&m 4 bachelors degree in petE…help highly appreciated

There really isnt a minimum requirements. It is going to be one of their more competitive majors though

^ ill graduate from high school this year…minimum requirements i meant the minimum SAT and/or ACT scores…and the minimum GPA since im an international student…do i need to give TOEFL as well ?

Well for international applicants OR us citizens there is no minimum required GPA or Test score. TOEFL would be needed most likely if you the reading/writing component of your ACT/SAT wasnt good enough (like less then 550). They take applicants on a holistical approach meaning they will look at what you do outside of the classroom as well because they want to get a full picture of your personality. The average ACT is 24-30 and SAT 1580-1920. Hope this helps

ohmyghosh09: thanx a lot for the clear picture but if my SAT score is maybe say, 2100–then do i need to give ACT ?.or is it that both are needed in any case ?.and if its something more better than 2150 or maybe more, then will they stress on the activities outside the classroom ? thanks

kusumuthram: but i guess since i want petroleum engineering seat , texas a&m should be prefered over any other , i guess

Whats your act score? Yeah keep Texas a&m open too, they are both very good in PetrE. They dont require both, so just submit your better score. Well they will no matter what your scores are stress activites outside the classroom, but also essays come into play to explain any gap you feel you may have in your app or to stress something that is really unique about yourself

ACT score:27 - good enuf with a good SAT score with almost no extra curriculars ? + texas a&m considers either sat or act.so they wont consider both.are the gud scores enuf for a&m with no extra curriculars?..and whIch 1 is above the other among a&m and penn state ?
