Difficulty of chosen classes

hibiscuslc, we have the same Lecture and Recitation for ECON 101.

Woo, 2 people from CC in Econ 101. If ya’ll want to add me on facebook, pm me and I’ll give you my name.

Auburn - What sections do you have for Engl and Span?

I have heard that Astronomy is a very hard course if you don’t have a strong math background.

Oh crap, I’m in astronomy haha.

I mean it depends on how it is taught, if is taught anything my CC astronomy class which was physics based it should be pretty challenging. Check out an astronomy text book and see if it is something you are willing to put the effort into.

where did you get that grade distribution? and also these are my classes:

engl 123
chem 102/l
comp 116
span 204
anth 101

i couldn’t get into a fys, but hopefully i can take one second semester… how does my load look?
does anyone know how hard span 204 is? because i haven’t taken spanish for a year so i’m nervous about that

thanks! :)

Check out myedu.com and you can look at grade distribution, difficulty and even professor info.rmation

Sophomore here.

skyblue099:

Seems to be an average first semester load. Chem will be a pain of course, unless you are talented in that subject. COMP 116 will be annoying/time-consuming.

SPAN 204 isn’t all that bad, but if you’re rusty you’ll just have to get back into the swing of things. At first I felt overwhelmed in Spanish class, so I told my profesora at the beginning and she kinda looked out for me and it wasn’t bad once I got used to it (got an A- in 203 and A in 204).

Don’t sweat not getting a FYS. You’ll get priority registration next semester to get one. They aren’t all that, but some can be interesting and they are normally fairly easy (mainly participation based).

Hope I helped!

Plcy 101
Econ 101
Engl 102
Chin 101
Comp 380

 • Apple Service volunteering with 30 hrs. community service

Is this too much? How hard/easy are my classes?

InBloom:

Well pretty much every freshman I talked to last year complained about ECON, so that’ll probably be a little challenging. ENGL 102 (and 101 for anyone in that) is a cakewalk. Lots of writing, but nothing out of this world. Dunno about PLCY. I hear that people with no previous exposure to CHIN generally find that difficult. COMP 380 will almost certainly be an A unless you get Pozefsky (who gives tons of B’s). I don’t know much about Apples.

So if I had to guess, ECON & CHIN will be challenging, COMP & ENGL won’t be very strenuous, and PLCY is a ? for me.

Best of luck with your first semester :)

thanks! i’m just nervous and ready for college to start lol

Thanks mpittman17. :)

Do you guys think 15 hours with my chosen classes PLUS 30 hrs/semester of community service is a lot?

InBloom, is the APPLES thing through your ENGL or COMP class? My friends who have done APPLES courses never liked having to travel to various places to volunteer b/c that can get sketchy, and it can be time consuming. The good thing about APPLES is that it gets you that tricky EE requirement which is hard to fulfill if you don’t study abroad. I finally got into an APPLES course this semester to fulfill the EE, so at least you’re getting it out of the way early!

I’ve got:
Chem 101/101L
Fren 203
Phys 54 (FYS-Physics of Movies)
Hist 107
Lfit 190
Waitlisted for Math 232

Jambaby, APPLES is through my COMP 380 class. Do you know anything about it? Along with EE, it is also knocking out two other requirements, which is superb. I’m just concerned that volunteering on top of my schedule may be too much for the first semester–especially since they are early classes and I am seriously the worst morning person EVER, and yes of course, volunteering is time consuming like you said :/

Is it Computers & Society or something like that? I looked at pretty much every EE class when I was trying to make up my schedule since I’m a senior and I need that freaking credit! Ha. I’m in some class that requires us to volunteer at schools or something which hopefully won’t be too bad. I will just have to figure out the bus system because I don’t take my car to school. Yikes. I had a friend who had to take a bus to some immigrant family’s apartment to try and teach them English for her APPLES class! No way. I know she had to keep a journal of her progress, but that’s about it.

I’ve always wondered if we do the volunteering in place of going to some classes or if we have class every single week in addition to the volunteering. It seems like they could just say go volunteer and report back in a few weeks and skip the class part! Just wishful thinking maybe?

I wouldn’t worry too much about the 30 hours thing - most everyone has to take an APPLES course at some point for whatever reason, so even if you didn’t take it now you would probably be taking it at some point in the next three years. Also it’s probably better for you because you aren’t committed to a ton of clubs or anything yet, so I think you should be fine.

Yes, it is Computers & Society. What class are you taking? I am actually volunteering at an immigration and refugee program in Durham. I hope I don’t have to actually go to an immigrant family’s apartment! I don’t have a car either–but the program is located by Duke so I am planning on taking the Robertson.

I bet volunteering is in addition to classes. I don’t know how many classes though–maybe they will be easy on us and we don’t actually have to stay the full time 2-3 times per week. You made a good point–I will have to take it sooner or later, so it might as well be now before I get into rigorous major classes. Thanks for your help. :)

It is SOCI something… I am blanking on the number. I don’t know the exact class my friend took, but I thought that was WAY too much to ask to have students go to strange apartments alone. The Robertson is a nice and direct route, so that’s good!

Yes, if we have to go to class all the time, I’m at least hoping they’ll let us out early. I feel like my friend just had to go to class to turn in her journals! Anybody have experience with APPLES courses?

so my final schedule:
GERM 101
ECON 101
POLI 150
GEOG 56
ASTR 101
+marching band

Is this ok? I think I might drop astronomy because I’m not interested enough in it and actually quite dreading it. It would take me from 17 hours to 14.

^ I’d say that’s a bit busy.
